A day of mixed weather… started off overcast and chilly but very warm and bright in the afternoon once the sun came out … but cold again once the sun went off the water and the breeze returned to kill off any hope of an evening rise.
The river is low and needs rain. None in forecast though… There was a lot of fly life around when we arrived although not immediately apparent what it was… but the trout were very happy and were locked on, feeding voraciously on something at the surface … but we could not work out what! Although it never really felt like we cracked that puzzle 11 came to hand including 3 in the 18-20 inch bracket … stunning fish all to the usual size 14 grey parachute that can imitate most things. As many again were lost including another clonker. In the calmer water it really was sight fishing … the fish could be seen and their behaviour observed, which meant every refusal was revealed…. Fascinating!
A few grayling seen too … no doubt they will be joining the fun before too long. The day concluded with a nice chat with the couple staying in the railway wagon at the caravan park … fellow fisherfolk, left them with some encouraging words and a successful fly, hope they have a good time the next day.

First visit to Craig Llyn, a cracking beat, excellent set up, with good access and plenty of different features to fish.
River nice and clear, could have done with a bit more cloud cover but it made sitting on the bank very enjoyable so always a trade off!
The top part of the beat especially interesting with lots of "fishy" spots. Not much surface feeding, although I did spot some large grayling.
Next two pools had a bit more visible activity but ultimately we failed to find the trout. All fish caught on dry fly.
Clearly a beat with masses of grayling, often of good size, am sure the trout are there too.

River very low and a really hot day but I managed to catch a few nice trout and a grayling. Traditional nymphing methods using a very long leader and a hot spot PTN were successful. No interest on any of my dropper offerings, spiders, or on various dry flies. An enjoyable day on this well maintained and attractive beat.

First time fly-fishing on a river. Very beautiful stretch and owners were really helpful with suggestions for where to fish and tactics. All caught on nymphs

Stunning stretch of river. Conditions were bright sunshine and water was lower than we expected, but the fish were active and plentiful. Stuck mainly to the fast water on the beat fishing nymphs, variations of Hare’s Ear seemed to be the order of the day.

Gradual hatch in middle of the day of a couple of types of up wing flies and small sedges, and a couple of fish rose irregularly just out of reach. Spiders in the riffles produced no interest at all. Two fish caught on nymph under and indicator.
