River had fallen more than expected. Clear and bright so very tough day. Fished both sites. So tricky to get it right here so will be back hopefully with more water, warmer and cloudier. All caught on Adams.

Level fishable and had dropped a little from the day before when we fished the upper beat. But the wind blowing upstream made things pretty hairy (took me 4 attempts to get the car door open!) to the extent that even with heavy French nymph in it was necessary to water haul. My companion landed one WBT around 3/4 lb, I lost another at 2 lb plus but managed to land another touching 3lb. A vindication of what the Foundation has said about fish stocks on this stretch!

Plenty of water, still slightly coloured, sadly a strong cold northerly downstream wind. Saw just 2 small rises. Still enjoyable, one slight issue... access needs to be improved. The field (right looking down) downstream of the bridge has an electric fence to within a few feet of the water, I slipped and got a right belt of electricity....if the fence had been placed just a few feet into the field one could walk safely on level ground. Nonetheless, enjoyable. Spider patterns effective in the big water.

Beautiful venue but very small head of fish, lost 2 good sized trout on small gold head squirrel tail. On talking to a local angler who doesn't bother to fish there any more due to low fish stocks, (his words not mine) it makes searching for the odd fish frustrating. Never the less I will be back!!

All fish returned. Very disappointed as we were unable to fish more than 500 yds of the upper beat due to barbed wire across the bank and river preventing access. We had two rods booked on the upper beat and one rod on the lower beat.

Hard fishing in low gin clear water. Both anglers knew what to expect, having fished the beat before. Two 12", two small ones.

Low water levels, sunny/windy/showery conditions. Tried Lower Clochfaen to begin with but wasn't really in the mood for the kind of wading needed to negotiate this pretty tricky beat. However, to my delight, an otter came out of the water right under my rod - he took one look at me, realised his mistake and disappeared in a flash! I soon moved back to the upper beat, where I only managed three small (4 - 6") wbt - all on nymph. Always wanted to experience the upper Wye and was not disappointed.

Caught out 48hrs ago we had a swish of water and it looked good for today. Grabbed a ticket but its already down to 0.13m at Pant Mawr. I know this water well enough with these levels and a very bright day to abandon after 90 mins. Didn't see the other rod on this beat, just a fisherman on Upper Clochfaen - why do I bother to buy tickets! Will try again on a better day.

WUF note - Anglers are advised to buy tickets as it allows an angler to fish the beat legally. Please contact the Foundation by telephone immediately should you see signs of poaching activity on WUF waters.
