Water was high but falling, weather wasn't great. The beat is gorgeous and very fishy looking, in better conditions I'd be confident of a good day! All fish caught nymphing using heavy tungsten to get right down. Purple duracell seemed to do the trick. One of the grayling was around 2lb, rest of fish all around 1lb

River looked good and was dropping steadily but the water was quite cold. No luck; however, it was a lovely day in very beautiful spot. Fished with floating line and a fairly dense polyleader and tried a few tubes and flies sized 8 - 4. Had a red kite flying above me for a time, which was great to see.

We really struggled here, the river had some extra water but was clear enough. Much better nymphing techniques than we were able to muster needed. Just two rises seen, despite a reasonable number of sedges in the air. Apart from a couple of promising tugs, no action in 5 hours in the waters. Wading stick essential along with the felt and studs boots.

Our first visit to this very pretty beat but my fishing buddy & I made a tactical error by going equipped only for straight line nymphing. We had read the comments about the wading being tricky but were unprepared for just how tricky. So a combination of lowish and clear water made it almost impossible to fish the easier glides as the fish just got spooked, and wading was hard to get near enough to the deeper runs to fish them properly. The easier part of the beat is upstream of the bridge, and thats where our four fish came from. There are some good sized grayling here and a bit of colour in the water would certainly have helped. Just as we were leaving the beat owner came along to see how we got on which was a nice thing to do, and suggested next time that dry fly might be more productive.
