A brief reconnaissance in preparation for a future visit - some lovely water and plenty of it. The rain and wind didn’t stop the fish showing and had great sport on dries. Looking forward to spending a day on this beat - you need it!

Water levels were low and there was a fairly stiff breeze blowing upstream from the southwest. Flies hatched consistently during the sunnier spells once the wind dropped. Torrential rain between 5 and 7 curtailed sport a bit. All the fish taken were on dries, Adams, Clinkhanners and CDC's. Most were cast to rising fish but prospecting brought the biggest of the day. Best fish was a 15incher with a couple around the 12-inch mark. A very enjoyable day!

Lots of fly life and rising fish before the wind got up around midday. The trout were feeding hard on olives, suplhurs and the odd mayfly. All fish were over a pound and the biggest 2 3/4lb. Epic hatches all through the beat while it was calm with fish taken on DHE and CDC emergers. When the wind got up it felt like there were fish in the river.

A wonderful day on such a picturesque beat. Plenty of insect life and steady rises throughout the day. As a novice I always find this to be a tough beat, tormented by fish rising but not taking despite numerous pattern changes. Think I need some more coaching… one very large trout jumped clean out of the water 10 feet away from me. I eventually found a dry pattern that gained interest, 3 knocks and one brownie landed that wasn’t much bigger than the whitebait I had at the Seven Stars in Aberedw last night which by the way is a cracking pub and the rooms are good.

Six nice brownies for me all on the dry, on a very difficult day.

The weather was dry but the conditions hugely variable, with the wind changing strength and direction frequently throughout the day. At times it was flat calm, and others so strong I couldn't cast.

To make matters worse the fish seemed to only want the smallest fly on the lightest tippet, this combined with the wind made for very tough presentation.

Still had a great day despite difficult conditions.

Started Sunny but then clouded over. Should have been perfect fishing conditions. Plenty of flies hatching and some rises…

… didn’t work out for me today though.

Full, cool day with occasional drizzle. Flies hatching intermittently over the day (olives) with fish regularly rising. Fished bottom of the beat most of the day. Fish difficult to tempt and lost several but landed one lovely WBT of about 14”

Fished Upstream dry fly for trout as salmon looked very unlikely. Not many rising trout. A couple of early mayfly spotted. Rocks covered in slippery weed through much of the beat.

Fairly ropey beat for trout anglers. When low especially. Access is terrible with no bank work for many years. Large parts of the beat are canal like. Uniform depth, flow etc no features to fish too. I wouldn't book this again as a trout angler.
