2 experienced fishermen both drew blank using variety of nymphs either traditional or Czech casting. Possible reasons?
River was high after 4-5 days heavy rain to day before? (water clear to about two feet) (wading generally unwise away from bank. Significant drop in temperature previous night (was 15c day before but snow on hilltops that day)?
Rapid change in pressure as a High settled over Wales that day?
'Twas just one of those days!!

John & I fished this beautiful beat on a less than beautiful day. We got very wet and cold but had a lovely time never the less. We didn't see or catch any grayling - our target fish, but we got some activity from oos brownies, including a couple of reasonable size.
We took refuge in the open Church close to the river at the peak of the rain which was a pleasant respite.
There was one GREAT moment when I was casting a fly at what I thought was a rising grayling only 6 feet away, when a Salmon the length of my arm leaped out of the water, 5 times, as if it was having fun, then disappeared. Fifteen minutes later John, who had been trotting a maggot about 600 yards above me appeared and said a BIG fish had broke his line. He didn't know what it was as he never saw the fish!!! A salmon taking a maggot?
As 'Arnie' said " I'll be back"

Beautiful Autumn day on the Ifron. There was quite a " hatch" of Willow fly, but the fish never really looked up.
one fish came to a small black and peacock spider,
the rest were caught on heavier nymphs, generally the fish were holding just on the tail of the faster water.
A good day out on a stunning piece of water.

Mid Wales is as beautiful as anywhere on the planet at the moment with the Autumn colours coming to a peak. The fishing however was tough with very little action. With the river so low I can only think that angling pressure over the last few days has put what feeding fish there were into a sulk. There were a few rises to the odd sedge and pale watery down by the church but floating leaves made presenting a dry fly tricky.I always love fishing here and having the back ground sound of the British Army playing with their 50 caliber machine guns and heavy artillery up on the range makes you keep your head down!

A rather better day than expected after we arrived to find the water so dark, was it the colour of the water or the light this time of year? It certainly didn't look like I remember from a previous visit. The silver beaded black and red nymph was the fly of choice for those caught, ignoring any shrimp pattern teamed with it fished CZ style. All grayling in 11 - 14 inch class, a small but Irfon beautiful oos brownie to hand. All returned with love.

Waters in perfect conditions. Beautiful and very secluded area. No rain but windy morning. Unfortunately very few grayling seen, none caught. Trout were nice size been most around 28-32cm and one 41cm (approx 16 inches), half of them with small nymph on a tandem and half on dry small olive ephemera when raising in the evening when wind calmed down.
First time to fish the beat and unfortunately only fished the lower part of the beat with very still and slow currents. I visited later the upper part and seem more varied water.

Beautiful stretch of water, well kept, access good. We walked the whole beat but could not find the bigger grayling but was good fun trying. Plenty of smaller fish rising which took the dry fly. This beat was so quiet and out of the way with owls hooting, woodpeckers tapping away and kingfishers, there was something to see all the time. A very well set out beat, enjoyed it and will be back soon. Sorry for the late report but was extremely ill for a couple of days. Thanks to owner for phoning me back when I got a little lost.
