A lovely day out on this well-kept Upper Wye beat. Fished from 9 am until 5 pm but sadly, no salmon caught or seen. Maybe next time.

Fishing Wyeseal beat, the furthest beat upstream on Bigsweir. Began the day fishing the glide. Over winter, the shape of the run has changed and it appears to have not been fished regular so the entry and exit points were difficult and much of the glide difficult to reach. Towards the end of the glide, where the water flattens and spreads, I hooked a good fighting fish on an Usk Grub. It transpires it was only around 7lbs but it was a reassuring end to my season having had a barren 3 seasons previously.

After an excellent start, two Barbel 8lb. 12oz. and a fantastic 10lb. 4ozs. by 08:30 only a small Chub before lunch and absolutely nothing until 18:00 which produced another Barbel and a Chub. The first two fish being very welcome, especially the double , five fish between four anglers made for a very tough day indeed. All fish to pellet and boilie.
