Bright with long sunny spells light breeze, river falling and clearing quickly after being very mucky yesterday. 2 trout and 8 grayling on this beautiful beat that is full of features that constantly challenged my approach. First grayling on a tan klinkhammer then no joy at all on the dry fly. Switched to heavy bead head nymph running through deep channels but no takers. Worked the faster water with a team of gold head ptn's, some tugs but still no joy. Finally got it right with gold head ptn on point and partridge and brown spiders on droppers, game changer! All grayling took the spiders with the best about 12" . Trout took the ptn, the second one an healthy 14" one and a half pounder. Met the owners at the end of the day, very friendly couple and got talked into taking a fresh apple crumble home!

first time on this beat and enjoyed it . water lowish but ideal to suss out the river bed for the future. went in search of grayling and was not let down. ranging from 8-16 inches all bar three taking midge and olive emerger patterns on size 18 and 20 hook. the three others taking beads deep before they started rising. all trout between 8-12 inches. met the owner who was a very pleasant chap. also a few very small grayling but not added into the catch return.

Today proved what a great grayling river the Irfon is. Fish were rising all day and all 18 caught on a mixture of size 16 and 18 dry flies. The majority of the grayling between 8 and 10 inches with 1 at 15" and one at 14". Trout 10", but where are the rest of the Trout?

No rising fish despite multiple hatches, 4 trout between 8 and 12 inches ..2 to size 16 Tupps and 2 to gold bead hares ear . 6 grayling 2x 15"" the rest between 10 and 13", all taken from shallow water at the tail of the pools on size 16 barbless tungsten nymphs of various types.. lost another 4 due to fishing barbless.

A beautiful warm day with masses of fly life but virtually no rising fish. The Irfon is the lowest I've fished it and with very little flow it was hard going. I fished subsurface at all depths and took the first grayling in shallow water at the tail of Glaslyn pool, the fish had a severe slash to its flank which must have been fairly recent..around 15" to a tungsten bead hares ear size 16. Changing to dries the next was a smaller fish 12" to a size 16 para Adams followed by the 3 trout the biggest being 10", all on Adams patterns. With the water so low it was good to see what the river bed is actually like and the variety and depths of the gutters were noted for another occasion.

Lovely stretch, but no fish taken. A big pike has been spotted in the pool at the very top of the beat. I did not see any fish rising. Used several diffrerent types of nymphs, but fishes were not cooperative at all.

We fly fished for grayling. Water was very clear but not low. Weather was mixed with some sun and mizzle. Beat is very picturesque. We really enjoyed our day even though no fish were caught. I found your website and service second to none. Diolch yn fawr,

Levels on the slightly high side of good, just dropping after a small. 0.5 on the NRW Abernant scale. Grayling proved tricky to find but Kris managed one good fish.

We fished from 09:30 until 16:15. Water temperature hovered at about 8 or 9 degrees all day. A number of trickle-hatches were evident from about mid-morning until late afternoon. However, despite these, the fish seemed reluctant to rise. Using a GRHE bead head, my brother winkled out a nice Grayling from the Glaslyn flats. Earlier on, I managed to ‘fluke’ a seven inch brownie from the Mud pool. I prayed earnestly for a proper hatch and after lunch my prayers were answered; there, at the head of an awkward-to-get-to glide, just beneath an overhanging tree I spotted a good fish rising with almost clockwork regularity. Wading into position I almost lost my life for the river bed is quite treacherous. However, at that moment, such things were the least of my concerns; I was in position, I cast to my fish and hooked it on the second drift down: it was a tiny, three inch Salmon Parr.
