Took a chance today with the slightly crazy weather forecasted knowing that the river is partly in a valley and with generally high banks and good cover .Paid off fairly well but the wind sure was funnelling around a lot but not too many heavy showers tearing through which was a relief.
Very very quiet on top , which came as no real surprise all things considered so banked on terrestrial stuff being blown on to the water so a chunky foam beetle brought a few fish up to investigate . Nothing big though to hand but still all beautiful Arrow fish and I did bump off a couple of very good fish what with there wham bham smash takes ! Their cards are marked ...
No evening spinner at all though , which I find usually a banker to end the day. Probably blown over to the next county!!
The new upper stretch is stunning, and particularly the mid stretch there which has some really fab runs and deep pools and generally a lot more open up there. You just know theres got to be some good fish in those pools ! A very good juxtaposition indeed up here too from the very wooded lower section.
Good numbers of stone clinger nymphs on the rocks and usual caddis.
A big Goshwak came silently through the run late in the day with murder in its eyes. Stunning.
A pair of Kingfishers busy commuting up and down the river.
Only downside to the day was spotting a party of 9 Goosanders, yes 9 !, sitting in a pool late in the day earmarked for the evening ...damn!
Any of those old mill ruins for sale up there perhaps ? Ha ha...
Such a beautiful and peaceful part of these lands.

Just a couple of chub & few eels from mid-beat. Water level low which may have been a factor.
