A tough day due to the bright sunshine which really has an affect against the bedrock. A few large trout seen but none to the net. The closest came under dark tree root where a nice sized trout was hooked and lost. I get the feeling in overcast conditions the fishing here could come alive but sadly today was not that day!

1 lovely brown at about 1.25lb from one of the long deep gutters 2/3 of the way down the beat. Taken on a heavy Perdigon in burgundy.

A beautiful stretch of water but not many fish in evidence today. A few LDOs around in afternoon but I saw just one rise - and couldn't interest it in a fly. Blank was saved by a nice 14" fish from in front of the waterfall which took a nymph - what a backdrop! As per other reports on this beat, it's a stunning part of the river but seemingly not easy fishing. Although I'm sure on its day it could be great - so much of the water looks promising...

Stunning day, a foggy start soon cleared to bright, warm spring sunshine. One trout of about 16 inches taken on a hairsear early on before switching to a dry fly in preparation for any hatch which might start around midday. A few insects did start coming off at about 12:30, including a few March Browns but sadly I didn’t see a rise or any other fish all day.
Lovely to be out nonetheless.

A stunning day out with my brother who assisted me from the lowest section to the top without complaint,he caught a beautiful Trout above the falls that was well over 2 1/2lb [sorry O.B but we don't care to carry tapes or scales as after fishing for over 50 years we don't worry over a few ounces here or there unless the fish is exceptional and for the pot].
The river was running through pretty strongly but very clear so had we moved a Salmon we would have seen it but no joy until we were packing up when a fish of about 10lb failed in its attempt at jumping the falls several trout were also trying to ascend. Thanks once again T and B.

And so the fun begins with the leaves ! The cold and gusty winds bought plenty down on to the water today , hey ho , it is Autumn after all !
Booked in today for a last blast at the spectacular river here and the hope of her giving me up one of the big browns that I know are here . Alas not this year (again ,ha !) but did have fun watching quite a lump of the fish that might have gone a couple of foot in length. Of course I did try to tempt it with some of my best offerings but it was having none of it so left it to it's business . Next year maybe !?
Did find some more of the smaller fish on the go sipping down no see 'ums and where pretty fussy so was happy to land the one and then sit back and ponder awhile. A nice chunky fish it was , very hard fighting 3/4lber. A size 20 para Adams did the job.
I target different runs/pots etc every time I fish here and always find 'new' fish , I think theres actually quite a good overall population here ?
Astonishingly clear water today , the proverbial Gin. Stunning.
Offered my thanks to the river as I left and hope the trout overwinter well .
Thanks to you guys and the owner too who I to spoke today and is a smashing bloke .

No fish caught to report. What a beautiful stretch of the Usk! The water was low and very clear, which made the fishing very challenging. A few fish were rising but took flight when I got anywhere near. Still, a wonderful day on the river.
