6 fish to the net all 6 - 8 inches, all taken on the Crai section where I spent most of the session. Many takes missed. There seems to be a lot small fish here which bodes well for future stocks. Wandering along the Usk section lower down I spotted something very large in a deep gully.

Sorry for the delay in posting.....very few fish visible on the main river but the Crai was more productive.
All in all only managed 3 fish all around 10-12" mark

Weather went from o/c am to rain from 2.00pm. Usk water low & clear. No movement in the morning but a hatch with a very few, quite large fish rising in the afternoon. Upstream casting made difficult by strong wind. Nothing taking. Tried the Crai but water was very low & no fish to be seen.

Blank, except for tiny trout and parr. I had hoped overnight rain might have freshened things up a bit - and there is a long shot for a really nice fish from this one - but in fact the river was very dour and I only came across a couple of small ones rising all through the day. And yet, there was a plethora of trout food out and about, on the surface and in the air. Apart from microscopic stuff, I counted the big stone flies which like this upper part of the river, little black sedges, plenty of small and medium olives, yellow mays, what I think were large brook duns rather than march browns, even a few true mayflies. No reaction at all. Disappointing, but a very pretty place to spend the day.

Very hot and sunny day with very low water. Dead as a dodo during the day. Stayed for a hopeful evening rise but nothing turned up.

Nil return - very scenic beat; no sign of any trout; half an hour of LDOs late lunchtime.

Rather warm, mostly bright sunny all day. Wind slight.
Fishing for grown-ups. The river was very, very clear and (I think) a bit higher than summer level. Nine browns from 1 to 1┬Żlbs; one of about 2lbs hooked but dropped. Most of the fish came to the dry fly (biot CDC compardun with extra long tails) in the smooth runs, but fish also found in the deep pools using upstream nymph (GRHE gold-head). A very lovely beat, and one that I'd happily fish again.

Many thanks to the WUF Office for the warm welcome and great suggestions for my two days fishing.

I caught one very tiny wild brown trout with Elk Hare Caddis #18. I could see a lot of rises from the evening and I got a few strikes but not successful but the only one.

My friend caught a 30cm wild brown trout with Pheasant Tail Nymph and a 20cm wild brown trout with a Mayfly.

3 small fish 6-8in returned safely. All on dry from tail of pools 2 on parachute adams and 1 on black gnat. River very low and no rain for weeks, apparently. Pretty stretch but rather tricky with low water.
