A low and clear river and a day of bright sunshine is not normally conducive to a bumper catch. Sure enough Barbel were largely absent. There are a lot of Chub throughout this section though. Standing high on the bank it was possible to see very many fish cruising around. One angler fished the Lucky Stone whilst the other initially fished a little downstream of this initially before moving on to the lower field.

Tried a range of baits and tactics all resulting in Chub with many of these being between 4lb and 5lb. Only one Barbel was hooked but unfortunately not landed. The ‘others’ were three Roach which managed to take a 10mm pellet.

Fished the wooded section. Lots of chub to be had but barbel were elusive. Only two rods fished for most of the day and the return seemed fair in light of the hot and sunny weather.

Chub to 5 lbs. plus to meat and bread, majority on float, couldn't get the Barbel interested. Only a couple of swims fishable in the field below the woods and they are full of cow pats, very unpleasant, did'nt stay long, fished most of the day in the woods.

Morning session on the lucky stone. Pellet feeder with corn on the hook was taking the chub. A range of sizes from 1 lb to 4. Small barbel about 1lb. Steady fishing and a few canoes to disrupt the day when they decide to stop in the peg!
Great beat and a good morning on the river

The ‘Other’ was an eel… & a fairly decent sized one at that!

Lucky stone at end of woods, fast water shallow is full of chub. Casting downstream was very snaggey but gave the barbel a chance to find the bait before it was snuffled by a chub. Lost 3 in snags as well as landing 4 to 9lb. Chub averaged 3/4lb with odd bigger one.

Fantastic day on this consistent section. Fished pellet feeder and meat with fish right from arrival at 7am. Had 12 fish by 10.30am. Then the canoes turned up on mass and bites slowed down. 18 of the Chub were in the 3 to 4 pound bracket. No sign of the barbel today. River was very low though. Left at 4.30pm with a big grin on my face.

Fished the swims at the top end of the beat which seemed to be full of Chub. Majority of fish caught on meat with the rest on pellet. Best Chub 4lb 9oz. Weather sunny but not to hot with the river level still low.
