This was our first visit to the Creel and can see why it is such a popular venue for those of us that fish the Wye on a regular basis.
A beautiful stretch and a glorious Autumn day added to the uplifting experience of fishing there..all we had to do was try and catch a few fish to cap a perfect day. We had no success float fishing in the strong flow but groundbait feeder found the Barbel and also our first double...a fantastic fish weighing 10lb 4oz!!
Needless to say but we look forward to returning next year and thank the WUF for their assistance once again.

The weather conditions were very windy with waves coming up the river, the 2 Barbel were in the 5 to 6lb range, with the chub at around 4lb, all taken on feeder tactics. Please note that the path down to the beat from the car park is heavily overgrown and very difficult to walk on. The willow tree at the bottom of the path has several bows broken, I would avoid standing / fishing near to it in high winds until something is done about it.

We arrived at the Creel to find the river up a little with a tinge of colour which was good a lovely stretch of river. We caught a Chub each 4lb and 4.5lb caught on spiced luncheon meat and the larger one on a section of frankfurter sausage. Thanks Wye and Usk.

Very slow day two: the fish were caught at the end of the day I am aware of the swim access debate, however, its dissapointing that the bank below the island which the best swims on the river are only available to mountain goats or the very foolish.

A challenging day in very windy conditions on at the Creel. It is clear from the catch reports, particularly earlier this week, that there are good numbers of barbel in this beat. However, we have yet to work out where they are! RB went for a static approach fishing one swim all day, and was eventually rewarded with a solitary barbel late on. RW went for a roving approach fishing four swims throughout the day, catching a total of 4 small barbel and 3 chub in two of them late on in the evening.

Lovely day to be on the bank, weather was just too nice though. Fished from 11am till dusk due to long journey and early start for work the next day. 2 barbel were both 6lb and the cub varied from 1lb up to 5lb 2oz. I also had another good chub of 4lb 8oz. Very pleased with the chub catches as I have found them to be in short supply on a lot of the beats. Bit disappointed in the barbel but I guess they didn't like the bright sunshine. Cannot wait to come back next season!
