With the river now looking fishable after what has been almost biblical conditions for 6 weeks it was just a pleasure to be out on the banks, spent the day roving the beat with breadflake or meat as hookbait, 2 bite's and one chub, far from the best days winter chubbing but a real joy to get out again.

Fished 3 spots below the island, blanked, banks slippery with receding river height , very exposed in high winds, struggled to hold with 60-90g feeders. Tried multiple baits and set ups , probably needed to be more mobile

Last day of the year and great to spend it at the Creel. Very quiet drive down and very tranquil on the back. Fished one swim all day concentrating on maggot feeder. All fish caught on maggot, nothing on pellet. Had 7 nice chub and lost two, pulled out. Needed 4oz to hold in the flow using bow method, drop back bites. No barbel even though river was 7 degrees. Fabulous New Year’s Eve. Here’s to 2020

river was up several feet from yesterday, so abandoned the prospect of fishing, licking our wounds, drove home after a
fruitless couple of days..

another one down to experience, had quite a few of those unfortunately on the wye, going to ask for a wash off for the second day, see how we get on..

First outing since the recent floods. In fact my first fishing day out since October 23rd. Great to be back on the bank and the Wye. Was a proper winter wonderland at the Creel today. freezing fog creating a picture postcard, with the river steaming too, just amazing. As for the fishing, well that was tough. Had two lovely Chub only but glad they were obliging on such a cold day. Level was 1.2m and falling with temp at 5.0 degrees. Nice day on the Wye and to be honest was glad to be out of the office at last. More fish next time I hope. Wondeful day.

A falling river and a few days mild weather seemed to present a reasonable prospect for the fishing. But after four hours in different swims and baits the rod tip remained unmoved. Finally, with the light almost gone I managed a chub, followed by an eel. I missed another bite in near darkness and that was that. Nevertheless it was a pleasant afternoon and good to be back on the Wye after nearly a month.

Having fished the beat in the summer and only had chub, wanted to go back for a barbel. River was challenging, 1.8mtrs on the Ross gauge, only a couple of swims fishable on the inside, all quite boily, found a reasonable glide behind the large fallen tree in the lower field. Ended up with 2 barbel about 6lbs on large pellet and meat. Was an enjoyable day in the sun sat out of the cold wind.
