Lovely day out on beats 1 (morning) and 3 (afternoon). My first time out with a Salmon rod, so not anticipating to catch, and in that I was not disappointed, as I didn't catch. But I had a great time, thoroughly enjoyed the beats, and look forwards to catching a Salmon next time! Many thanks to Terry for excellent advice.

Freezing cold, water not great for fly, but caught a 12 lb springer spinning with a black flying 'C' on Beat 6. No fish showing and no one else fishing.

Another challenging but very enjoyable day on Whitney Court. Very low, clear and cold is always going to make things a little tricky. Fortunately the pike were game during the day and I managed a couple of low doubles. The chub then came out to play in the last hour before dark. Saw a juvenile otter when we first arrived and had a large dog otter scare the living daylights out of me just as it was getting dark.

Back again as there is so much water on Whitney you can't cover it all in a day. Pike didn't really want to play today but managed one nice double. Chub were elusive until the sun was going down and I managed a couple to just over 4lb. Rumours of this fishing changing ownership - hopefully that won't affect access. Ian was helpful as always with access and fishing advice.

Hard going on a clear and reasonably low river but 4 decent pike and a couple of late chub made for a good day all round.

As yesterday at Preston Court beat no pike appeared to be interested, still want to return as soon as possible though there's always the scenery and hut which make up for it.

River fining down and looked good for piking. Walked the whole length of the South bank, trying all the pikey looking slacks, some of which I have caught from before, but it was dead and I didn't get a single run all day.

Weather and river conditions perfect. Fishing terrible. Fished several swims and tried every bait in the bag for 1 Chub. Several times whilst fishing I was sharing the river with a Cormorant. This also happened the last time I fished this beat. Has any body else noticed an increase in their numbers this winter? A few weeks ago at How Capel Court I counted 13 in the morning.
