fished beat 2 - with low water levels theres a good couple of hundred yards of exposed gravel and an easy chuck to the fast water under the trees. Great day with plenty of decent chub - won't be far off a 50lb bag - but still no barbel. Loads of snags to contend with so bring lots of feeders..or bring a snorkel and go find all of mine!

We parked at the pump house building and went across the field down stream. We were fishing with Spam, sausage and bread but couldn't tempt anything. However, I saw my first wild Salmon rise around 08.00 in the second usable swim. I was privileged to see the full body breech of a deep and long fish and the tail was amazing. I would estimate this fish to be over 10lbs, what a sight and my first wild sighting. There were plenty of rising fish, which could ave been sizeable browns or even grayling taking flies off the top. Hopefully we'll visit again next year and this time I'll bring my fly tackle as well. Many thanks to local gentleman who steered us in the right direction and to Terry for his texts. Steve

Beat 4 in evening. Alternated between pellet and meat. No sign of barbel. Constant chub attention to meat resulted in one small fish. Kingfisher did much better than me!
Several salmon splashing about.

Tricky days fishing as it was very hot and bright, the river was at a good level but the fish weren't playing.
I caught 1 chub of about 5lb touch ledgering on some luncheon meat.

One barbel of approx 8lbs. saved our blushes at last knockings. Was so hot that we really should have arrived at the river 6-7pm & fished when the sun was off the water, but travel arrangements did not allow this. Lovely day on the riverbank nevertheless. Almost constant slow hatch of 'uprights' to feed the sand martens & the trout. Two lazy salmon moving now & then. Late on there was a bigger hatch of yellow may's ( Sallies); Such pretty little insects ... glad to say some of these escaped the avian onslaught. I should imagine the river really comes alive at night in these conditions.
Thanks to all again.
