Heavy cloud, 10C maximum temperature, no wind. I was banking on the fact it had not rained in the previous 24 hrs but on arrival, the river running high and fast - but relatively clear. Webcam at Brecon at noon was showing the river at 1'10". Spent four hours working a weighted PTN around the eddies and the slacker water under the bank without any success. No sign of any fly life so left, defeated at 15:30.

River quite high and in full flow. No hatch and I didn’t see any rising fish. Made contact with 3 or 4 fish using heavy nymphs but none stuck.

Very cold still, 4 degrees at 1100 and snow on Pen y Fan. Sunny breaks forecast but none materialised. A very small number of olives tricked off at lunch, but no decent hatch yet and no rising fish. One 14” BT on the Euronymph rig from the deepest lower pool.

First day of the season; had to be done! Dressed for skiing rather than fly fishing - but the temperature did peak at 4C. Overcast, but no wind. River at summer levels after a very dry February. No sign of any fly life all day and only the occasional movement from small fry. A day for tungsten bead PTN’s. Nothing on the shallows or in the deeper pools but lost a good fish fishing the crease in the fast water at the bottom of the beat. Persistence paid off and got a BT of a little under 1lb with the same tactics. Fish in excellent condition for so early in the season.

I have had worse starts to the season!

Sunny intervals; no wind. Lack of recent rain means river back on its bones but at least the water is cold. No fly hatch all day and only a couple of rising fish. No success on the oxygenated flats and riffles with a nymph. Spent a couple of hours stalking visible fish in the deeper water. Stealthy approach essential, but only got one cast at each fish. Most frustrating! Good blackberry picking on the right bank!

Hi
Today was a lovely day river beautiful and clear with fish showing throughout the beat. I caught one lovely established 1 Pouder which was returned ok.
However please can we have a clear sign at the stream to define Dinas beat end and Abercynrig beat start as the two people who booked the Dinas beat clearly didn't understand where Dinas ends, one of the parties was fishing halfway up the Abercynrig beat which led me to the top of Abercynrig beat and work it down stream.
My day was wonderful a nice beat.
Nigel

Humid and overcast with no wind. Water level close to ‘summer normal’. Martins left for Africa, mushrooms in the field, blackberries in the hedges. Autumn on the way! No fly hatches all day and only a couple of rising fish seen. Focused on lightly beaded PTN in the faster riffles . One nice WBT.
