There was some insect activity but very little rising.
All the fish came to weighted nymphs. The result of the previous nights torrential rain arrived at around 2pm bringing the river up about 6 inches in 30 minutes, fascinating to see but pretty well put an end to the fishing. As ever a stunning beat to fish with the early signs of autumn in the leaves. Will look forward to being up here in the spring.

Day started with a rather blustery morning, but things settled around 2pm. A couple to the dry fly, but eventually the sun became to much so switched to nymphs in the deeper channels which was a good choice. A lovely days fishing.

First visit to this varied and interesting beat, which was looking absolutely gorgeous in very rare summer sunshine. Not good for the fishing but certainly food for the soul. A few trout did eventually come out to play as the evening wore on and although it was never warm enough for a proper evening rise, we did manage five fish to 15", the best coming to a head and tail riser caught on Peter Hayes' Spinnermalist pattern. We will certainly return next April!

Fished the afternoon into the evening. Not much rising during the day with the odd olive coming off the water. Caught one of about 12ozs on ptn. More rises in the evening, not sure to what. Went through the fly box and rose and missed a few on various different patterns but couldn't determine what the fish were focussed on. Went away a tad frustrated. Pleasant day out.

Lovely, pretty beat (my first time here) but blanked, unfortunately. French nymphed for most of the day and lost 3. Not a lot of insect life about but maybe that's usual as the season progresses around here. Would like to come back and try again.
Thanks WUF.

Just fished for a couple of hours late evening. Fish started rising at about 10pm but they seemed to be mainly wee ones. Lovely to be out on a warm summer evening though!

Not a lot of water at the moment and the sun (not overcast and rain BBC) didn't help matters on this great beat but we both enjoyed the day. It started with a quick preview of the beat where we spotted a a large otter patrolling below the salmon pool, a great sight but unnerving when my mate told me how much fish they need to consume to survive, and what if there were pups ?!
I managed to net a smallish wbt at the start and then went to find where my partner was. I can still see it now, I found him in a nice looking run under quite a bit of tree cover, looking dazed and confused, wrapped up in line annd holding a "birds nest" in his hand. In three casts he'd had a brief meeting with a "Penpont Porker" that dove rolled and shed the hook and then netted a very good fish only for it to leap out again when trying to remove the fly. He now knows what this beat is capable of and has vowed to return, unfinished business apparently.
