The river looked superb , but very little fly life, fished hard for 3hrs, covering a lot of the river ,I saw no fish, weather cloudy but not cold, after lunch I changed from nymphs to dry's as the temperature had risen, Bingo 1 small trout caught & released, on a 16 Adam's,
On my way back, I did see some fish rising but by now I was too wacked out,
Enjoyable, but exhausting.

Nul points, despite Euro-nymphing.... Beautiful place to spend Mayday, though.

Had to work hard for my fish, despite apparently good water conditions and rising temperatures. Using nymphs (except for an interlude trying to tempt 2 or 3 rising fish with a dry fly around lunchtime) I caught one early on. Then nothing until I hooked a much bigger one about 3.30pm, which after 3 or 4 minutes of lively fight dived behind a rock just upstream of me, and shed the hook.

Lovely day but not a bite and only 1 rise spotted. Water clear, leaders long, tried nymphs of different weights , spiders and emergers in the quieter spots. All to no avail . Stuck around the bottom half of the beat. Chicken and ham pie from butchers in Ledbury today.

A bright sunny with welcome warmth after the lingering winter. About 0.55 on Trallong gauge saw river clear with good flow. Access above farmhouse difficult but some lovely water. Very tricky to fish. Easier to fish downstream of farm. Didn’t have time to visit upper stretch. Incredibly scenic beat but no hatch to speak of and not a rise or fin to be seen all day.

This was a new beat for me and chosen as river running very high in the middle reaches. I walked a good part of the beat and sat watching the river for 2-3 hours but not a single rise seen and a solitary olive was all I saw and so did not even wet a line. It is beautiful stretch though and one I will return to in May when more fly may be about. (Strangley enough I then went downstream to a middle reach club water where the river was very high and had superb sport in great olive hatches)
