Day started badly, got stuck on the way into beat, just inside the gate. Not allowed to park before the gate or under bridge where standing is good. Managed to free car with bits of wood. It had not rained for a fair few days so needs caution, or 4x4.

River not that high, did try salmon for the first hour or so then onto trout. There was a hatch around one o’clock which had a few fish rising, just not interested in my offering. Tried nymph mid afternoon and had a couple of takes in succession and finally landed one trout of a lot 1lb. First time on the water and really enjoyed.

It was a sunny day and the ground had dried out so no problem driving out. Thanks WUF.

Glorious day of blue skies and early spring warmth. The river was coloured and about 12 inches above summer level. I walked the beat and then fished it twice. The water looked good and was at a a decent temperature. But no flies came off and no fish rose. I enjoyed the excercise and would like to return.

Lovely stretch of the Usk. Unfortunately wind was against me today but would definitely try another day, beautiful little brownie returned safely.

First time at Greenbank and I was as optimistic as ever. The colony of cormorants fishing the tail pool that greeted me sank my spirits a little. But really it it was the very low water that was the central issue. There were several salmon jumping in the tail pool, including a good fish of about 15lb, but they were all very red fish. The flow was so slow though it was hard to really make a go of it. No noticeable hatch or trout riding either. Very hard going.

Hard going in low water conditions. Lots of livestock in the river, should be fenced

8 inch brownie just above the power lines. Wet and windy. Saw 3 or 4 large fish jump on the far bank. Lovely venue.

Great day. Few grannom and midges trickling off in the morning and odd fish rising in pool tails, things got going when the cloud came over around 12.50 and a trickle hatch gradually turned in to a decent stream of upwings by 1.30....LBD's, LDO's and few Olive Uprights, the odd iron blue . The fish rose hard in the pool tails (but were very sensitive to lining/drag) until the hail started around 14.00.

After it eased at 14.45, the odd fly was still coming off till 15.30 and a few fish rising. Best fish of the day was a beautifully marked 2lb 4ozer, 3 others were around 1.5lb, 2 around the pound and 1 of 12oz. All fish fell to dry, 2 were lost on nymph.
