First time here and it was a lovely beat, no salmon seen. I was told by two anglers fishing the opposite bank that from the bottom of tail pool right down to the end of the beat was reserved for them, the “cider mill” beat they said. As it was my first time here I said ok but is this correct?
Fishing Passport Note : Absolutely correct, the opposite bank from the bottom of the tail pool is the Cider Mill beat.

Arrived to find three lads in the river each armed with spinning gear. I rather suspect lock down has encouraged this type of thing with fewer proper fishers on the river. Their lobster complexion suggested they had been there a while. I politely but firmly told them to leave which they did. However the disturbance to the evening fishing was already done and the bottom half of the beat rendered useless. I persevered at the upper end and caught one fish and got somewhat frustrated as several more threw the fly. I will return to this favourite beat soon.

An evening fishing the Usk for the first time this year. The river here does shift around a bit but the winter floods have changed things a lot especially towards the bottom end. New deep pots have appeared which may well hold salmon in the right conditions. The enormous black Poplar tree trunk in the river is a testament to the force of the water at the time. A great beat for bird life this with lots of sandpipers, plovers, sand martins and kingfishers. Fishing was good too. Two on the nymph before the rise began at around 8.30. Three more to small emergers and several lost.

Couple of hours early in day on way back to London. Not a bite. Fish around but not taking what I was casting.

A calm day with sunshine here and there but mostly cloudy. The odd rise throughout the day - but nothing to anything I presented. Switched on and off to running a couple of different types down the two or three stretches of rapid shallow water on this beat. Eventually landed a lovely trout around 12 inches on a Montana Nymph !
This is a great stretch of water - very accessible but care required as suddenly goes deep in a number of places. Will return.
