In most respects, I had a terrific day. The water level was good and it was clear, it was warm but not too warm, and there were flies emerging in patches. Without wishing to seem to brag, I lost count of all the trout I caught. I think it was about 30, up to 1lb, and, to my surprise, a 4lb chubb, which took a salmon fly!
The area in which it was a dire day was in that there was not sign of salmon of any kind. There should be par and smolts now, and after catching 30 trout, I had thought there would be SOME salmon amongst them, but no,

Well, I thought today would never arrive! It's possible to fish again! The water was lower than I'd hoped but still fishable. I hooked some trout and had a good fight with one. Another fish took very strongly and ripped the line out of my hand. Dare I suggest it might have been a salmon...?!?
After disasters in the past, I now bring my spare salmon rod, just in case..... and I broke my reel! I went to tighten the rings and shove it in a bit as t was loose and the spurs snapped....
Some retail therapy later and all is sorted, but a lost day really.

Stumbled upon a small shoal early on, but the rest of the day was slow. Hare's Ear grub and a PT variant. Had a lovely chat with a fellow angler who seemed to know a thing or two about fishing in these parts.

4 x grayling 12-13 inches, 2 x out of season trout 12 and 15 inches, heavy nymphs and leaded wet flies. With the gauge starting at 1ft 9 inches, it was darned difficult today - certainly possible to fish as the water was clear, but difficult to get round the various spots. Had a interesting chat with NH of Bristol/Massachusets, and he may have done better. I left him to it as drizzle began around 4 o'clock.

Two OOS trout and three Grayling were taken and returned at the top and middle section of the beat.
A ginger Tom did the business in a dropping river that was clearing. Heaven!

Haven't fished here with the water over the red-line at Erwyd before. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was expecting to need scuba gear to fish, but about 2/3 was fishable. The rest was dangerous to say the least, but the experience of fishing in high water was worth having.
Shame the same can't be said for the amount of salmon seen. Caught one trout for my sins...
Also, thank you to the other gentleman who was grayling fishing. It seems I left my boot lid open and he kindly shut it. Can't understand how I dd that....Well that's all folks for another season. One to forget again, wasn't it....

Fished for about an hour or so from a couple of gaps in the trees. Looked a very nice fishery , perhaps best tackled with the fly when the water level is a bit lower.

when i first came here several years ago the river was low and i loved it. but the last 4 times ive booked it the river has been in flood ! ( this time only 4" above the boards ) well im here now so i`ll give it a go, there are a few spots you can fish when the water is up ( mostly beach type swims ) and even though i couldnt find any grayling about, the trout seemed happy to feed. the water cleared out a bit as the day went on but it didnt go down any. oos trout to 12" all caught on nymphs , and i lost a couple of fish maybe they grayling , who knows!
