Warm and sunny at Ty Newydd with quite a few olives about between 11am and noon. Four trout to 14" and a 12" cock grayling all on a black spider fished high. An enjoyable session despite much early season clumsiness.

Great to be back here after a couple of years absence. I broke my time in two fishing a couple of hours in the morning and then again in the afternoon. I was relieved when I got there to find the river was very fishable as judging by the roads there had been heavy rain over night. The height was 1.34 on the Erwood gauge.
In the morning I concentrated on the medium paced water without anything then eventually landed an 11 inch fish after trying some fast broken water.
In the afternoon I fished all water speeds getting two trout quickly, one 6 the other slightly bigger. The chub was of a nice size and probably a touch over 5lbs. I was working a sculpin pattern around some tree roots when I hooked some obviously fairly heavy. Unfortunately not the large trout I had hoped for but still very welcome.
All on a French leader.
I have ordered some new studs for my boots as I’d forgotten just how challenging the wading on the rocks here can be.
Even though slow going a very enjoyable day.
Thanks to the foundation as they gave great advice on best practices when fishing the Wye and Edw on the same day. I ended up using different waders and net and then sterilising my boots between rivers.

First time on the Wye, river was high and fast so wading was difficult at best. Fished from the banks where I could and waded in as far as I dared but this meant fishing was touch limited.
Landed one small trout around 5/6” on the right edge (looking down stream) of Bathing pool, caught on a Gold Bead PTN....didn’t see/encounter any other fish.
I will return in the summer months when the river should be a little easier to navigate, still enjoyed the day though despite conditions and the weather held off enough for me to stay dry which is always a bonus

I'm afraid I didn't fish. Weather too extreme to be standing out in the middle of the Wye as far as I am concerned!

8 x grayling 9-11inches, Pink Shrimp and various leaded wet flies. I tried this for about three hours. Some shots were to be had by standing waist-deep in the middle of the Wye, which is a good fishing height now. But I'm afraid the wind chill factor just became too much - hardly a pleasure. Upstream wind very strong and the rod rings laden with ice.
