The day was blighted by a strong upstream wind that seemed constantly in our faces! Casting and mending were near impossible with tangles aplenty. We each caught a good 1.5 lb grayling, both of which were returned.
There wasn't a hatch of fly, just a dribble throughout the day, with only a few fish rising. None of these were trout, all either grayling or salmon smolts.
I still have not knowingly seen a trout on the Wye this season. It can't be just me. I wonder if it is still a bit cold. The water, although a little warmer now was still chilly.

River in good condition but still quite cold and pushing through strongly. Not helped by the gusty downstream wind, which kept all but a few hardy small sedges from hatching. Struggled to make any sort of contact on nymphs, but managed to save the day by taking a couple of 8-9" grayling from the pool just below the Clettwr Brook - amazingly on a dry!

Booked the fishing mainly for casting practice, rather than in expectation of catching anything. The river was quite clear, but perhaps 6" too high. Didn't see any salmon, but caught a 2lb brown trout.

Two experienced fishermen who know this beat well but found the high and fast flowing water a difficult challenge. Water speed really too fast for Czech nymphing despite using double beaded patterns. Only 'hits' and the one take of a small brownie was in water about two feet deep and a few yards out from the right bank towards downstream end of beat.
Maybe it was just one of those days where the pleasure of being on the water out weighed the lack of fish!!
(Four dead good sized salmon washed up in reeds where the Clettwr Brook joins the Wye)
