This is a stunning stretch of the Upper Wye. Parking (once found - instructions are clear but the navigator's ability to read them not so much) is a well located. Walk down to the gate (there is a hut there but that's not the river hut marked on the map). Very good conditions apart from a gusty wind. The Grayling Whisperer had a successful day using nymphs in the outflow around Ciliau Falls & Rocks and Ciliau Run. Wading a little tricky in places. Good stretch of water that kept us interested all day.

We stayed at The Griffin Pub in Llyswen which we would recommend.

Lovely day on a new beat for me. Fished up from the car park to the holiday cottage "Ty Newydd". Not much action during the day, but managed to take a nice size wildie in a channel between to rocks. Fly used was a green and black nymph.

Bright sunny day, albeit with some cumulus clouds, with some blustery winds although generally not too bad/gusty at times. The river was low, allowing for fishing the lower sections more easily than when the river is higher later in the winter time.

Some lovely trout (nothing too big) taken on dry fly and a few grayling. Missed a couple of takes. All fish safely returned. Used variety of small flies (size 18) - changing regularly to keep fish interested/surprised with new offerings every so often.

It was still cold with a tricky breeze blowing and showers. River was low and mayflies, yellow may duns and olives were hatching but the fish were reticent – we only had half a dozen by 6pm and many refusals. At six o’clock the rain set in…. but a blizzard hatch combined with a spinner fall induced an evening rise like I have never seen before on the Wye. By 7.30 the tally increased to 16, although there were out of season grayling in there. Best trout 16 inches.

The last hour or so were Wye dry fly fishing at its best….

Just the evening ticket. River low despite recent rain, warm and mostly sunny. Very quiet until 7pm when a late mayfly hatch seemed to wake up every fish. Great evening.
