Very nice day, with 3 or 4 others fishing the same beat. Water levels very low for the time of year, but right through the day there seemed to be fish ready to take a nymph wherever there was broken water and a little depth. Nothing of any size though. Four were around 6 - 8oz, and three more smaller - salmon parr size. Maybe they were salmon parr??

Caught 10 fish each, all on weighted nymphs. Very bright day, no hatch and no fish rising. A very nice fishery.

First time fishing a river like this having recently returned to the sport, 2 small trout lost, loads of fish around, lack of fish caught a reflection on my skill on a river rather than on this lovely stretch which seemed to be full of life.

My bro and I only caught 1 fish each but this is our lack of river skills and nothing to do with the beat.
It's a very pretty beat in a lovely setting, plenty of fish rising, March browns and others coming off, mainly nyphing but also tried dries, we need to get some lessons in river craft.

11 x trout 10-17 inches, various spiders. Today I was faced with a bit of a quandary, trying to work out some water which might be in fishing condition after all the rain and flooding. Going up the Usk as far as Brecon turned out to be good enough. It was a miserable day, with that cold gale still blowing, downstream in this case, but spiders worked well enough in slightly coloured water - Waterhen Bloa, Dark Moorgame, and especially Woodcock and Hare's Lug. I was going to report that there was no hatch at all, but I did find a solitary march brown on the handle of my spare rod when I picked it up to go home.

10 x trout 9-15 inches, Waterhen Bloa, Jingler and Bastard Adams. Well, the flood has dropped away again but my word, it felt cold at Brecon in a north-easterly today. The water, which must have some snow melt in it, felt colder than on opening day. Perfect conditions for the large dark olive in fact. The hatch was late - I didn't see a dun until 1 o'clock - and all over by 3 o'clock, but the river was quite lively for a period. Switched from spiders to dry flies as the fish switched from nymphs to duns.

9 x trout 8-14 inches, Waterhen Bloa, Jingler. The very cold downstream wind is still with us, although the air temperatures are rising - up to 8 or 9 degrees today and sunny most of the time. Large dark olives hatching between 11.30 and 2.30, with a few fish rising to spiders and dry fly.

5 x trout 9-13 inches, Waterhen Bloa. Fished from 11am until about 3pm. River pretty high on opening day but running reasonably clear. Air temperature in single figures, but a very chilly and strong downstream wind made it feel colder. Thick snow on the Beacons. However, large dark olives were coming off for a good 3 hours - I saw very few duns taken from the surface, but spiders fished just under were being taken with great enthusiasm, presumably by fish interested in the ascending nymphs. Dry fly not attractive. The main problem was that butter fingers here missed most of the takes - I must have pricked or lost a dozen lightly hooked fish. Not a bad start to the season.

Beautiful day on the river. Fish rising below the top bridge although saw a family of mink on the large rock on the town bank about 1/4 mile down from the gate from the car park. Plenty of bites and some larger (1lb) fish below the bend in the river. Took a small brownie before the bend and a nice 0.5lb just below having missed three larger fish. Didn't have time to explore the bottom beat.
