No fish caught. Did see some fishing rising for around 10 minutes around mid-day but that was about it. Also say a salmon jump under the pipe bridge. A few guys from the Merthyr club were also fishing the beat and had a chat about tactics. Will definitely return when slightly warmer and a not so cold easterly wind.

5 x trout 12-16 inches, Bastard Adams, March Brown Duck's Dun. A lunchtime session only, but an interesting one. A cold grey morning had given way to patches of sunshine. A few grannom around, but a trickle of large dark olives gave way to a couple of brief but intense March brown hatches. There may have been more but I had to leave at 2.30. Amazing number of fish moving. Missed a lot of fish today and I'm afraid to record that I broke off in a couple. Incidentally the management here tell me that no stocking has been done this spring and none is planned. What are being caught at the moment are either wild fish or grown on from stocking in previous years.

5 x trout 10-14 inches, Bastard Adams and Waterhen Bloa. Much tougher conditions this afternoon with single figure air temperatures and a nasty cold downstream wind blowing in black squalls of rain and hail. The sun peeped through, but rarely. A few grannom about, but trout more interested in very occasional hatches of large dark olives in sheltered corners.

Lots of Grannom and fish riding but I was too inept to get any fish to rise to my fly. Nice bit of water!

Fished bottom end of Abergavenny town with a MTAA member from 2.30pm till 4.00pm. Lots of grannom on the wing when we arrived, but barely a rise to be seen. We had half a dozen between us, most on nymphs fished under a klinkhammer, but the best fish nailed the klink. I lost a good fish on a streamer. The top of the beat resembled Barry Island beach - complete with sunbathers & swimmers! Maybe not the best beat for a sunny warm day.

19 x trout 10-17 inches, dry flies - Start Jarvis' Bastard Adams, Hair Wing Sedge, usual suspect spiders in order of usefulness - Dark Moorgame, Hare's Lug and Plover, Waterhen Bloa. An interesting day (until about 2.30 anyway), warm and sunny, with dark olives, March browns and grannom sedge all hatching together at times. A mixture of wild and stock fish with some hefty ones - several over 17 inches.
