Only arrived about lunchtime and fishing this beat for a few days . No takers in the afternoon but hopefull over the next few days . A lot of colour to the water and going down . Walked down the fields as the access was very muddy and even my Toureg was having difficulties.
To be expected with the amount of rain we’ve had over the past few weeks

Loads of cormorants in the trees opposite the beat. Suggest these are controlled. Fishery owners can apply for shooting license.

With the river level rising again there was only one peg that could safely be fished. The level came up another 6 inches during the day. As I had found on the three previous days on my latest trip to the Wye ,conditions looked spot on but the barbel just did not show. Two solitary chub were the only bites of the day. With the ground conditions being very muddy the dog spike and rope were a great help.

Two fished, challenging conditions with river up and racing through and with short nature of this beat it was difficult to find any real slacks to fish. I did manage 1 barbel (8lb) and 1 Chub (4.5 lb) fishing Close in from middle swim which we had to share in the afternoon. Just about held bottom by adding 2 ounce lead to my 4.5 ounce feeders. Tough day but my biggest ever barbel made it all worth while.
Top tip - Park in the lay-by and walk to river in wet conditions. I initially tried to park just inside entrance gate and it took me 10 mins to get it back outside after wheels getting no traction on wet ground and churning up the mud.

Parked at the top and walked this time as last time got the car stuck. It was really useful to see the video of the swims and access. Not a long stretch and 3/4 swims accessible. First swim to the left didn’t produce on the feeder so switched to the middle swim and caught 6 chub to 3lb trotting meat and feeding pellets so a good day on a nice stretch. It rained a bit and steps down to swims got quite slippery so had to tread carefully. Would benefit from some stones or wood to make them more permanent.

Trickier day than expected. While level was, dropping all the time, water was still pacy and difficult to hold bottom. Started well getting into a large Chub (4lb) on ledgered pellet, but fish managed to throw hook at net. Persisted in trying to ledger slacker water, but srruggled to settle.
In the end, opted to trot and stret peg luncheon meat and maggot for remainder of session, producing two similar sized Chun (2lb) and the highlight of the day, a good 1lb and a, quarter grayling. Beautiful fish, in superb condition and no shortage of energy.
I see there's a planning application for Glamping Pods in the field adjoining most of the pegs. Will this see the end of fishing there? Shame if so. A lovely stretch of water.
