A quiet day, with one barbel of 6lbs 12oz saving me from disaster at 6pm. It seems the barbel are still spawning, and very few fish were evident in this stretch today.

A very strange day. Only the one bite despite searching much of the beat. Lots of fly life but no surface activity. Lovely stretch.

I didn't have a single bite all day :( Having spoken with Woody @ Woody's Angling in Hereford he informed me that this was widespread across the whole Wye with nearly ever angler blanking - apparently simply due to the fish still or just having finished spawning, following the late spring we've had this year.
First blank ever on the Wye!! I suppose there's a first time for everything...
I will have to revisit and correct this blank very soon!

Tried absolutely everything to winkle out a fish of some description but it just was not to be. Pre-baiting and moving swims brought no change.
Suffice to say, I cannot think of a better place in the world to blank. The local wildlife never ceases to entertain, even if that is a Mink busying itself along the margins. Will be back again and again and again!

Bright sunshine, water clearing and low/dropping (less than a foot at fownhope). Not a sight of a salmon or trout and hardly any sight or sound of anything topping all day despite considerable fly activity (mayflies and others unidentified). But plenty of (what I think must be) shad around - five of them (all released safely) around the 3lb mark took flying Cs of various colours. Overall it was much more a day for sitting by a lily pad-filled pond dozily watching a float than for flogging away after salmon with spinner and fly. Ho hum. Caradoc is a beautiful part of the world with good access to beat itself, and easy access to water at the start and end of beat; access OK (less so for fly) in mid stretch. Probably due to lack of success not sure I'd want to pay same amount again for Salmon (not when it's £10 more than -for example- Goodrich Court. Having said, could well be tempted back later in year for some barbel fishing.

Beautiful beat to fish a fly on and a bonus being able to drive the whole length. No fish seen or caught but a very pleasant day in perfect conditions. Thank you W&UF!

34inch fish, est. 17lb first ever salmon for Marcin Mankowski to spinner, he also lost another fish later in the afternoon. Some fish moving, great day out for our company, we met a season rod who showed us the hut and told a bit of a history of this beat, many thanks to that man. Thank you.

Two of us spent most of the day fly fishing though no fish seen or caught by either of us. Weather was glorious and great to be on the water. The bottom of the beat below the bridge is a lovely stretch of fly water, though good access for fishing from the bank on the upper and middle pools as well. Someone else fishing on the beat had caught and safely returned a cock fish est. at 30lbs from Horseshoe crib. Caught on a black and gold devon minnow.
