First of all, the gate by the lay-by is broken. Couldn’t get through it.
The rocks underfoot are treacherous at the moment. Very slippery, and I use Patagonia tractor boots, which are usually great for grip.
Water was pretty low, although fishable. I had seen a few miles downstream that water was extremely low. So perhaps there are still some salmon stuck further down.
All that said, it is a lovely beat to fish. Perhaps in a pair though, not alone. There is very little signal on phones so an accident alone could prove dangerous. This is also not a beat for those that struggle climbing steep banks.
Thought I’d provide this feedback so people can make informed decisions, when they come here.

Lovely venue. We navigated the ‘track of doom’ without assistance from the RAF or the SAS. The fishing was slow, the river was low, despite all of that, we were reluctant to go.
Thank you.

Really nice venue. Managed to drive down and back up the ‘track of doom’ without having to call out the emergency services, which was a relief, even without a 4x4. Anywho, one nice barbel and a few small chub, all caught on meat. Great place, best of our 3 day trip on The Wye.

Low water and comparatively slow flow meant then fish were well spaced out. Finished with two pike to the net, one small and one mid double. Both falling to lures and a roving approach.

One of those red letter days. Conditions were more or less perfect, both in terms of weather and water (a little more colour may have been desirable).
Started at 'top' end faster water and worked out way down towards pylons as time passed. Decent Chub found throughout day, falling largely to ledger and pellet. 3oz, more than enough to hold bottom in most places.
Around one the first Barbel showed up, but it was after three that things got hectic, with four fish caught in a 90 minute window. Carried on till dusk, with last knockings arguably bringing the best fish of the day. All taken on a mix of pellet, from traditional Halibut, to Robin Red. Noticeable that the better fish preferred normal Halibut today.
Chub sizes ranged from 1.5 to 4lb. The Barbel were between 5.5 and 8.5lb. Worth commenting that ALL fish were in absolutely superb condition. Beautifully scaled, coloured and in most instances, plump. No damaged tails or fins and no evidence of lice. I think it was likely that few had seen a landing net before.
Not sure there's another stretch where bankside access to river is so easy. Yes, the trudge from parking to river might be a bind in heavy weather, but for an experience like yesterday's, a worthwhile endeavour.
The Bunch of Carrots nearby, offered a good range of beers, decent food and a nice environment in which to pick the day apart.

Good day on lovely stretch. Fished half a dozen swims and caught in every one. Croy at upstream end produced all the barbel. We then slowly moved back to the start of the beat as we wanted to try out different spots. Chub were all a good size. Other was an eel.
