No luck, will try again, hopefully when the river is in better condition ....I really liked this spot. Stayed at Gentle Jane's in Grosmont expensive but good......and a welcoming local pub.

Tiny hatch clear water no fish caught but very enjoyable day. Useful to have such a good pub close by.

4 trout to 15" and 4 grayling to 14" on a mix of Klinkhammer and Sawyers Killer Grub, NZ nymph style. Raining heavily from soon after I got there, [1pm] until I stopped fishing at 6pm. The water was coloured but only slightly up. A lovely beat that in better conditions would have been even more enjoyable to fish.

Caught and returned three brownies 10 – 12 inches in size. Two on black nymph and one on klinkhammer. Conditions difficult with rain and wind all day so fished downstream nymph mainly. Lost many more, mostly taking on small black nymph with a silver rib, particularly in shallows just above rapid sections. Section of river from makeshift barbeque down to below house fished best. A challenging, enthralling and exciting day.

No fish caught. One or two tugs at nymphs. Water low and weather windy and raining on and off. Only one rise seen, otherwise no activity at all. Dissappointing. Beer at pub excellent!

A blank day, but most enjoyable for all that.

This beat rarely disappoints, but unfortunately this was one of those rare occasions when it did.

Arrived about 4pm not expecting much to happen until later , unfortunately sun came out about 6 ish which due to the westerly aspect of the river means in shines right down the length of it, killing any chances of fishing.

Decided to pop into the Bell for a pint and then walked back down to the bottom end to await the evening rise.

Conditions were perfect, warm, very still, hatches of great variety and quantity, think I even saw some mayflies, but unfortunately the fish just weren’t interested.
