Bit of a tough day. We both had a couple of barbel but the downstream wind of 25 mph didnt help much. I find this beat very peggy and one where if you get fish you need to invest time and effort to maximise results. Sadly we didn't really fish it that well and the results showed. As always its great to be on the Wye. Thanks to WUF.

First time to white house, river like tap water and bright sun. Had a chat to local lad on concrete walkway he said conditions were not ideal. Had a walk down stream but so clear and no deap holes to speak off to have a go at. The local lad left mid afternoon and said fish would show later,so i went on the walk way and had 1 chub 3lb and 2 barbel 6lb my mate went on the concrete wall past the hut and had 1 barble 6lb,never went up stream but as most places you need to get to know the venue. Elipse pellet super glued to the hair seems to be as good a bait as any for the barbel on the Wye.

1 nice Chub and a small Barbel. 3 anglers got permission from the farmer to fish the afternoon (after a dreadfull tackle-losing morning on WUF Kerne Bridge) though I was the only WUF booking here, and successfully landed a 9lbs 5oz and a 7lbs barbel and a few others from the fast water swims off the concrete walkway. Caught on spam and light tackle and no Wye experience before. Well done them as it was 2ft up and really pushing. I plonked in after they'd gone early and remained biteless into dark. A 5oz pellet feeder needed with constant bits of weed a real pain in the flow and elsewhere. I suspect an effort to get up off my elsewhere and walk the top deeper slower beat (though now with more pace) would have been productive! The Wye got the better of my laziness.

Started fishing at 9:30am, two of us fishing, caught my 1st barbel within 30sec (7lb,8oz) followed one hour later by two more 5lb 7oz and 5lb 4oz, then moved to upper stretch. Caught four more between us all between 5lbs and 7lbs 8oz and missed one. Good location/access and swims to fish.

Excellent day on this long stretch of the river not far outside Ross.
Started at the lower end in the faster water on the stickfloat taking a net load of chub from 8oz to 5lb with the odd dace thrown in.
Switched to groundbait feeder tactics for barbel late afternoon, still in the faster water and got an instance response on corn. 6 barbel to 8lb in 2hrs then let my mate fish the swim who had another 3 and a big eel.
Great beat when the water level is right.

This was our 2nd visit to the White House beat. The first time was some 2 years ago and it rained all day, however this time it could not have been more different. On a perfect fining down river nearly back to summer level, on what was a very hot day, four anglers shared 10 barbel up to around 8lbs each, severn fish to one rod, with a two fish tally for the second angler and just a single fish for the third. A much improved beat with plenty of accessible swims to go at, very pleased to meet the gentleman land owner, who made us very welcome and was very informative.

Difficult to judge the venue in respect of swims as the water was high. There may well be more swims but I was disappointed to only find 1 fishable swim about 150 yards upstream. Still, had 3 nice Barbel on pellets during the day. Would have liked to stay longer but the skies opened up and I was worried about getting out of the steep field which became extremely wet and slippery.

Me and a friend fished Sugwas on the previous day and although the water level was high we had a good day. We stayed at the Grafton Travel Lodge in Hereford which was clean and comfortable with the staff freindly and helpfull. Unfortunatley when we got to the White House beat the river was way up and raging though so we did not fish, went and had a bit of lunch instead. This was the first time either of us had been on the Wye and what a stunning river it is. With the ease of booking a beat we will be back soon for another go.
