River looked to be in good condition, despite the artic scenery! Two brownies @ 10ins on bugs, no sign of the grayling. Good to blow some cobwebs out though. I think I will return to the Wye in spring and stay on the Lugg while the weather is artic. Many thanks.

Blank. The weatherman had vaguely promised that the temperature might go above zero today, but it was not to be at Llyn Em, evidently. I struggled for a while with freezing rings, floating ice floes etc, but completely failed to make contact with any grayling.

From the sublime to the.....well, different! After yesterday's cracking session at Abernant, and never having fished Llyn Em before, today's session was always likely to be an anticlimax! And so it proved. Virtually no fly coming off and hardly a rise to be seen. Emergers drew no fish upwards apart from a trout and a grayling to a hare's ear emerger fished NZ style. A pale watery nymph fished NZ style, and conventionally, tempted a grayling and a trout. A small GRHE tung head took a 13 inch grayling, and a shuttle cock midge, a trout. Fished the riffles, the runs, the creases and the pools; tried emergers, spiders and nymphs and even risked the ankles accessing the top section gutter on the bedrock! Lots of parr on the nymphs and emergers. Will have to go back to try again on a more promising day.

22nd February, Wye at Llyn Em: Blank. Lowish and clear water and I made sure I knew where the grayling would be...but they weren't. No contact at all and desperately cold.
