I don't think I have fished the river at this time of year. Wild chives were growing everywhere and the rhododendron at the hut was in full bloom. Anyway. Weighted hares ears proved to be the fly of the day, catching 5 of the 6 fish, the other falling to another type of nymph. With the amount of sunshine we had there wasn't much of a rise going on considering the fly life. I did speculate with dries, but the fish showed no interest. Incredible amount of bird life around, also a gang of canoeists, and a family of bathers came and went. Its a big beat and didn't bother us. We will return mid summer for another crack.

Two small brown trout caught on pheasant tail nymph, french nymphing style. Tricky casting in a blustery downstream wind and a lot of variation in river height in places made things complicated. Excuses I know.

Fished the length of the beat. Nymphing in the faster stretches brought a few trout to 10".
Yellow mayflies, grannom and plenty of other insect species about but only occasional rises spotted all day.

Fished hard all the fast water with nymphs for a good number of trout and grayling. Extremely tough wadding. Saw 2 large barbel and a couple of shad swam past my feet. Highlight was a pb chub of maybe 7lb. I have caught plenty of big chub to 5lb but that was a beast!

Lovely day out on the Wye, had two nice trout to start on the dry. I then spent far too long prospecting, instead of switching to nymphs.
All fish were around 9-11 inches, all returned safely.

Gromain x 3 rods salmon
Very low , very pretty. At this height the sandstone gutters could be best fished with a Switch or 9' single handed rod .
2 shad of c. 2lb on # 10 stoat's tail.
No salmon or trout seen - needs about 4'' more....

Test drove a micro Spey trout rod but with the river conditions, a little 7’ stream rod would have been just as adequate. Almost all the fish took blue dun hackled wets on the droppers today and , surprisingly, there was very little interest in any fly fished on the point. Fish rising sporadically throughout the day but apart from seeing clouds of grannom now and again, I couldn’t make out what the risers were taking.
The others were a few parr and a couple of Shad which appear to have moved up in numbers now.
