After losing a fish yesterday on the Rectory, it was nice to get my first GLLR springer in the net today on a first salmon fishing visit to Gromain.
Around 30’’ cock fish, colouring a little, hooked on a SHFC in the neck of the spring pool, but landed a fraught 20 later minutes later 75yards downstream after coaxing him out of the heavy water and boulders below.
The other was a shad which took a Kylie shrimp fly in the Ferry.

Great fishing day only spoiled by poor visibility of around 18”. River dropped from 2’8” to 2’4” but with no noticeable improvement in clarity which was a shame as otherwise great conditions on the upper Llanstephan pools. Had two wades through Dol-Meudwy and landed three very fresh and plump Sea Trout of around 2lb each which was great to see and certainly got the pulse up on a long line and heavy water. All three took just above or to the side of the big rock which was submerged about 6” to a foot and guess they were holding quite near the surface to have seen the tungsten cone head Snelda.

Didn't really fish. River touching 3 on the gauge, not much point with a fly. However I will be back in lower water as it looks like it could be great

Decided to fish on the day despite that most swims were not accessible. Started at the Bridge Pool Gutter as the boards were visible although very slippery. Euro nymphing was possible but no takes at all. Decided to moving up to the tops boards as have never fished that part of the beat and being my first trip this year was not going to give that easy. Parking was interesting and best if you can open gate first then drive in. Found Hut at top of beat, small but cozy. Water too high to access boards by hut so walked further down and found access via stairs which were very slippy. Did have some fishing here again Euro nymphing but no takes.
