I haven't been to Gromain for years. A bit of an impulse decision to go there and try trotting maggot. Grayling ranged from 10" to 14".

Spent my 40th birthday fishing the beat with a friend, a great place to be. Fish started to show in the afternoon and after lots of misses managed to connect to two grayling and a small trout on a dry.

An enjoyable day with three of us sharing what appeared to be excellent conditions for salmon at Gromain. Unfortunately no salmon, although Roger did manage a surprise small grayling on a shrimp fly.

A beautiful day for my annual pilgrimage to Gromain. Very few rises and only a brief flurry of Pale waterys around noon when the sun came through. The day was spent with the long rod and nymphs, Czech nymphing in the deeper runs just before the tail and at the head of the pools and French nymphing in the faster shallower water. Peeping Caddis and copper tung bead GRHE with a pink thorax worked well, the average size of the Grayling was better than last year with the largest at 15", the best OOS Trout was a stunning fish at 18", four Parr were also caught. A word of warning to folk with larger vehicles ( I drive a VW T5), the parking marked on the map does not have enough room to turn around which means a tricky reverse up a rough track onto a busy road. I park on the road verge by the bottom field gate by LLanstephan bridge.

A blank day, although I did lip hook a couple of fish. Grayling? I tried a variety of nymph patterns and hook sizes. There were a small number of rises towards the left bank in the early afternoon. The water level fell quite quickly in the morning, then rose noticeably in the afternoon It was a dry day in this area, the opposite of the BBC forecast. A coldish wind blew down the valley; the prevailing wind was northerly, variable. The water was noticeably coloured all day - a muddy, rather than peaty, shade.

Bright and sunny but a cold downstream wind blowing for most of day. Saw only 2 or 3 fish rising so resorted to downstream nymph fishing. All fish caught on either a gold or tungsten nymph. Kept 1 trout @ 10oz
