River at a nice height and reasonably clear after recent rain. Water temp 9 C. Air temp 14 C to as high as 18 C. Overall, a very pleasant day. Not much of a hatch, yet trout very inclined towards a dry Parachute olive imitation. Had 10 between noon and 3.30pm, all on this fly, all good fish with the best at 2lb 2oz.
A very satisfying days's fishing particularly after the very cold, lean times of March and early April!
Thanks to the staff at Wye & Usk Foundation for your excellent service !

Patiently waited for midday activity but the cold wind blowing down from the snow-covered Beacons never relented and what hatch there was only lasted for at best half an hour. One brownie caught on Hare's Ear Nymph fished deep but very little activity otherwise. Nevertheless, a lovely beat and will be aim to be back when spring finally arrives!

I feel sorry for the fish on this beat - we saw goosanders, cormorants, herons and a lot of evidence of otters. This may sound like an excuse for not catching anything but the fish were very spooky and often in difficult lies to get a fly over them. However despite the temperatures 3-4c and snow flurries we did see some fish rising to the lunchtime hatch and some good size fish at that. I think I have to go back to the drawing board with regard to my fly tying!! Lovely beat, now my third visit, hope it warms up soon!

Conditions weren't ideal, extreme winds from around 12.30 made the fishing go off after a very short and prolific ldo hatch in which 1 decent brown of around 1.5lb was caught (plenty rising) and safely released. Did notice the fish had some sort of injury to the head. 1 other fish missed and another lost to a heavy leaded nymph, all before 12.30/1. Nice beat, shame about the weather. I'm sure in other conditions it would have been an excellent days fishing.

No success. Water was clear and quite high but no fish were showing or interested in my variety of flies.

Very strange day, the water was a good height and colour, weather changed from brilliant sunshine to rain and back to sunshine again (very cold in morning however). Didn't see any sign a salmon (other than a half eaten head on one of the banks). However I did have a 4lb brownie 1st cast, as I was just checking how the fly swam!
Very nice beat and for the Usk very easy wading.

One cock salmon 12lb approx, very red in Llanobery Pool. Caught on cone head temple dog orange and yellow. Released. 5 brown trout to 2.5lb all released. Many leaves. Very pretty beat, mostly good wading, good fly water.

The river was running quite clear but there was a reasonable flow with the Brecon gauge at approx 1ft. Hooked and played out a good 12-13lb frsh silver fish (Orange Flamethrower tube) only for it to flip and free itself just as I went to land it! A good day nonetheless.

Despite a terrible forecast, the weather was relatively kind apart from some strong squalls from time to time.
The river was at 1'2"on the gauge. We caught 9 WBT in total including 3 in the 1.5-2lbs mark - all returned. All were caught on weighted nymphs from the pools rather than the faster water. There was a small hatch of olives after lunch but the fish were not interested. As we left the river the heavens opened! We look forward to returning next year.

Cold start to a sunny but windy day. Good directions etc to the beat, easy access to the water. Started at the lower limit and had a fish each around 13" in the first half hour, both on beaded nymph - immaculately conditioned. We made our way upstream but struggled to fish in the chosen way due to the strong downstream wind. Upstream of the parking another couple of fish were caught from the fast water. After lunch we made our way upstream of the road bridge hopeful for some peace and quiet if anything else, and we found a nice run out of the wind with a few fish rising. Here 9 fish were caught to approx 15" (2 taken), lovely fishing and made the 2nd rod very happy. Although out of the wind, there was the invasive hustle and bustle of lawnmowers, distant music, sporadic shouting, and vehicles that belong on a race track consistently whipping up and down the A40. Productive penultimate day of the trout season totalling 13 fish, very enjoyable with DZ, but the noise (especially the A40) stripped it of the romance expected when trout fishing the Usk.
