A lovely stretch of river! A season rod was just landing a lovely plump 17" wbt in front of us when we arrived - but that was very nearly it!

3 fish rose all day - 2 caught, one long distance catch and release. 2 x 8" wbt final tally. Very cold again - will return to this super beat when weather is more predictable

Fished with a friend on another chilly June day that felt more like early April. 5 small wbt landed between us (I only had the one take all day).

The downstream wind made casting and line control rather tricky and the low air temperature coupled with gusty winds put the mockers on any kind of hatch. All fish were taken on nymphs.

I had a very enjoyable day with Frank Williams on this beat. Nothing to show for it but lots learnt. I like the beat for its great variety of water in terms of flow and depth. I had several takes and some hooked and lost with a small one landed but not kept. Probably one keeper hooked and lost.

Trout were all taken on nymphs of various descriptions in moderately deep cold water. I shall return when time permits.

Persistent rain and a low temperature characterised this day.
I began fishing at 09.30 using nymphs of various sizes 12 - 16.
I caught 2 tommy tiddlers before the river began to colour and I had had enough, I came off at 13.00 the river having risen slightly and the water beginning to colour.

During the morning there were no rising fish, although there did seem to be a hatch at about 11am for 30 mins of what look like olives to me...not being a great entomologist. I could see little movement or fish life.

One small wbt brought to the net (waterhen bloa) and 4 more hooked and lost. Nothing by way of a hatch but the weather was very changeable and quite chilly for the time of year. Lovely beat, though.

Beautiful water but cold & windy conditions again made the fishing challenging with minimal surface activity. On advice from Stuart Jarvis who was also fishing, we stuck mainly to Czech nymphing and had 8 - 10 smaller fish to 3/4 lb, all returned.

Caught 4 trout to 7". Very difficult day with strong winds and lots of rain as low pressure came through. No steady rises at all, and very small hatch if any. Dry fly was impossible. Most success came from size 14 gold head nymph on point with a same size brown pennel type wet fly fished across and down to the odd rise and searching the water systematically.

A warm, overcast day with a light breeze. Trout were rising sporadicall throughout the day until the wind picked up and the drizzle set in about 3pm. We caught 18 fish to 1 1/2lbs, split equally between a dry olive klinkhammer and a gold headed PTN. A wonderfully enjoyable day depsite the very low water.

Cold, 15C. Very strong wind, making casting an effort. Concentrated on more sheltered areas, using small nymphs, with 3 small fish to 9 inches and one better fish of 2lbs. After 6 days fishing the middle beats of the Usk, our 2 rods took over 30 w.b.t. to 2.75 lbs, in less than ideal conditions due to strong winds and low water temperatures. I`m convinced we could have caught more in calm conditions; however I would recommend the trout fishing on the Usk to anyone.

Sunny, cloudy, breezy. Rising fish few and far between, then mostly in sheltered, shady spots. 6 fish for the day to 10 inches,(w.b.t.), then at 5.30, casting to rising fish on far bank, hooked a better fish on sz. 18 nymph. leapt clear like a sea trout 3 times and eventually weighed in at 2.75 lbs. Lovely condition and safely returned after one for the album.
