Our first time here, having driven over the beat on the bypass to other places so many times! First impressions were very good with the river at a lovely height and relatively clear after weekend rain. A warm day with an upstream breeze - and very heavy rain later in the day (which called an end to proceedings). There is a lot of fishing on the beat, with lots of variety just as described.
There was a rise in the late morning about 11-12. Lots of surface activity with plenty of offers to dry flies and three fish taken to rusty klinkhammers and small red Wulff, of up to 15 inches. After that more difficult but there was interest all day and a couple more fish were taken on small upstream nymphs, with PTN the most successful.
Lots of great offers missed and certainly less rusty anglers would have walked away with a bigger bag. A great place to fish and I expect will become a firm favourite. Highly recommended beat.

Lovely day with blue sky and hazy sunshine. Air temperature rising to well over 20C. Water temp. 12C. Arrived at 12 noon and fished until 3.45pm. According to fellow angler there had been a light hatch of medium olives, resulting in a rise, at around 11am. I fished dry olive pattern and had 6 trout up to 1lb 2oz, fishing to occasional rising trout or fishing 'blind'.

We started early and finished late, leaving reluctantly at around 19:00 after a great days sport. All the fish were returned, and whilst we usually manage a decent result on this beat, we were surprised at the size of them, - the best at around 2.5 lbs, and the others all 1 lb+.
An extensive hatch through the middle of the beat at around 14:00, and a drop in the wind, allowed us to catch several good fish on a dry - some to an Adams and some to a small grey Humpy - and they really did hammer the flies !
Access to the water is particularly good, and the wading relatively easy, though would certainly suggest a wading staff through some of the deeper runs.
Another fisherman appeared in the early afternoon, and after fishing 'furtively' at the bottom of the beat disappeared when we got closer.
Thanks again to WUF.

What a difference a day makes, yesterday very windy and difficult, today still windy but a degree or so warmer and seemed much calmer. River in good condition and at a good hight. First WBT after about one hour at mid point on beat taken on GBN, in the middle of a hail storm! What fun.
When I wandered up towards the top of the beat there was another fisherman at the top pool, this seemed odd as I had booked the two tickets available, he did move away before I was able to speak to him and did not see him again during the day. WUF, is there a land owner rod on this beat? Or should he have not been on the beat?
Anyhow back to the bottom of the beat for coffee and then onto the water just below the bridge, good hatch of Olivis and managed four WBT on LDO over the next hour or so and missed more than this! A couple of largish fish, well over 1lb, and all good fun.
Overall an excellent day, and so different from previous day, thanks WUF for the information and will be back on the Usk later in year.

Difficult day with very cold strong wind blowing down the river. Did see a hatch around 1300, but nothing rising, stuck at it until around four then called it a day and prepared to come back next day and hope wind has reduced!

Like most Usk beats easy to find and easy to access. It also offers pretty easy wading for those who enjoy more security underfoot. Plenty of varied fishing and just about enough water for two rods for the day.
Welcomed by a cold northerly wind blowing down the river. Never really got going, gave up at lunchtime for the long drive home, cheered by Leicester City getting 3 points closer!

Mixed hatch of March Browns and Large Dark Olives.
Could not get a take on Dry fly. Fishing a team of North Country Spiders caught 6 up to 11 inches. Great guiding from Oliver Burch. Old Vicarage B&B at Erwood was good
The whole experience was enjoyable.
