4 trout caught - 8-10 inches.

After first trip back in may we took a few mates with us to experience the remoteness and sporting little browns, sadly the rains had coloured the res to something resembling "Bovril" I'm sure fish could not see fly unless it was pulled by their nose, seen only 2 fish rise all day but it was a coldish NNW brisk wind. 18 fish between us, nothing over 250mm. Little gold head variants seemed the only way to get to a hook up. Other flies induced pulls but seldom resulted in hooking fish...one can't help wondering why no bigger fish show, any one have any theories?

Good fun day at Bugeilyn last Thursday even if we did encounter a serious wind and some wet. 4 rods caught and released 13 trout,all standard Bugeilyn battlers who think they are much bigger than in fact they are. P.T nymph and GRHE worked and one rod did well with a dry Black Gnat.

Between 2 rods, 22 x trout, best fish around 11-12 inches. Almost no natural rises on the day, but a Bibio fished round through the ripple on a floating line brought them up, plus a few came to Williams Favourite and Blae and Black. Tremendous fun, on the kind of water more usually associated with the far north of Scotland or the west of Ireland.

12 x trout to about 12 inches, most of them much smaller. An opportunity to photograph the famed "Welsh Black Fin Trout" which certainly have an interesting colouring, copper merging to black, especially when first seen through peaty water. I also noticed a tendency to an underslung jaw and large upward looking black eyes. Anyway, it was good to meet them in their ancestral home. A Grouse and Claret on the point and a Bibio on the bob seemed to work well enough. All in all, a delightful morning until wind and rain stopped play later in the day. I walked round it and found good fishing at the top, but do be careful of some of the boggy areas - treacherous in places. I should mention also that the track is just fine for 4WDs, and that you could probably get a 2WD down it with care - but not a 2WD you are particularly fond of, I would suggest. My only problem is that I clocked 113 miles from my home (it's the wrong end of the catchment for me and in fact I think this land drains into the Dovey). But then again I note the Star Inn at nearby Dylife does B&B for 25 pounds.

20+ brown trout on traditional wet flies. Largest 12".

10 brown trout beetween 4 and nine inches. 3 on a green pt nymph before the hatch and small dries after took the rest. Great wilderness fishing experience.

It's a very rough track down to one of the most secluded waters I have ever fished but although you do need a 4x4 to get there it is well worth the effort. Crystal clear water and complete silence welcomes you. Parking by the boat house I chose to fish the left bank, quite boggy walking. Started with single size 14 dunkeld about 100m from boat house. 2nd cast resulted in a quite violent take from a 1/4lbs immaculate dark, yet well spotted wild brown trout. When the east wind eased, it was possible to use dry flies...shipmans buzzers...f.fly...griffith gnat...and general hoppers in 12/14 hook sizes to eager rises (great fun). Later in the day I decided to walk round over the bridge and fish of the steep rocks, good move this water a lot deeper a small gold head prince of nymphs size 12 took 5 fish in 10 casts all fish were generally bigger this side .... if you like fly fishing this venue will not disappoint.
