What a fantastic place. Red kites were seen soaring above the water. We both had a really enjoyable day with 60 trout between us. They fed through out the day so sport was constant. The flies that worked for us were sedgehogs, mallard and claret, black and green hopper and a claret bob bits. Will certainly visit this venue again.

Caught 2 lovely trout on a black pennel. Although I see that it is common to catch more than 2, I had a lovely day regardless. A wonderful spot and a great walk in.

Overcast and windy, 10 trout taken on Zulu's and Black Pennells. Biggest around 10". Beautiful location and scenery, 4x4 vehicle required to get all the way to the edge.

Thought rain would be the problem, but it was the the wind, with high waves on the water.
However, still managed a couple of trout on a black emerger. Also tried daddy, but no success.

Very misty early on, I expected the mist to burn off but it never really went. I had a dozen fish, nothing over half pound mark. Mostly caught on golden olive bumble. A fine spot.

Beautiful lake and surroundings. On the day was pretty windy and wet but was fishable. 2 brownies caught, 1 lost and a few missed takes. Fish fell high in the water to stick fly and Kate Mac.

3 trout caught on size 16 bibio and 18 snipe and purple. Lost five. There were heaps of fish feeding, but unfortunately they were preoccupied with caenis.

What a breathtaking water, we caught one small brown trout on a black gold head fly on a sinking line drawn slowly along the bottom fishing (badly) into the wind. The beautiful flat calm and blue skies at 7.30 were replaced by snow and strong north easterly wind later in the day but you couldnt help but be totally captivated by the place. We tried fishing at all levels, but on the day, the fish were largely better than us. I would echo the point about getting to the lake, you wouldnt want to drive down the last part of the access road in anything but a 4x4 but more important you really need to be careful with the underfoot conditions around the lake - especially on the east bank, there are hidden deep holes that caught me out twice (much to the amusement of my brother) and filled my boots with water, these could easily twist or break an ankle, remember there's no phone signal out there so be careful if you are on your own. The lake however is just breathtaking, we saw one other angler on the day who caught two using similar low and slow tactics to us. Really cant wait to go again. Many thanks Wye and Usk, the booking process is simple and your waters are second to none. Cheers.
