This was a tough day confirmed by the presence of only one other angler on the bank who reported that daytime catches have been sparse, with regulars waiting until the evening in the hope of better sport. In theory I was fortunate that there was quite a lot of cloud cover during the day, sometimes accompanied by the required heavy ripple, but Talybont's trout did not entirely agree with this and bar two takes that did not stick my only action involved a fish of perhaps a pound and a quarter which took the Kate Mac, a deep-bodied hen fish that was admired and returned. Dries, when I gave them a swim, were entirely ignored. A group of three cormorants flying up over the lake was not reassuring. With the lake already quiet in early summer, how will anglers fare in a month or in two months from now if the warm, bright weather has continued?..

We didn't arrive until late morning due to unforseen circumstances so probably missed our best chance, that's our excuse anyway.it was our first time at this venue and the scenery was wonderful.it was probably a bit too hot and bright for optimum conditions.Maybe if we had a boat and could have got out to the middle things may have been different. We tried numerous nymphs and buzzers and even pulled a streamer through but no luck.

Water lovely but very windy. Difficult casting. Would definitely recommend and come back in better weather conditions.

BBC weather forecast was for a gentle breeze and warm …. So of course like most things on the BBC it’s made up and we had a strong wind with cool temperatures! Didn’t deter the trout though and I managed five after switching to a midge tip for more control and using a Gold Head Hares Ear on point with two diawl bachs on the droppers. Fabulous place - end of !!!
