Thought I would try a new spot out but unfortunately it was terrible conditions and I couldn't really fish. I did briefly throw a line in but abandoned the day shortly afterwards.

Slightly mirky water and quite deep in places so had to wade very carefully but a lovely beat. A couple of takes on a black head hares ear under a brown/grey klinkhammer but couldn't get them in. Unable to identify fish type. I will be returning sometime!

After a wet week my fishing companion and I feared the worst but were pleasantly surprised to find the Arrow in eminently fishable condition, ideal for trotting maggots. However, I failed to connect with any grayling although I did land four out of season trout -6", 2 x 9" and one of 12"- and contrived to lose a bigger fish at the net. My companion persevered with the top weirpool but had only one small trout for his efforts, so moved downstream and landed a nice 12" grayling - our last fish of the day as the forecast heavy rain set in.

Blank for grayling, 14 x out of season trout 7- 13 inches, Green Insect. A very cold day, especially the morning with a proper white frost. I struggled and failed to get in contact with grayling during the morning with nymphs. Changed to dry fly after seeing a few dark olives, but every rising fish turned out to be an out of season trout.

River level was up over the depth gauge and was pulling through too quickly to really give us a chance. Having driven for 90 minutes to get there and being unfamiliar with the water we felt there was no option other than to give it a go. We flogged it from dawn till dusk and had one small trout just before the end of the day. Very disappointing fishing but at least it was sunny and did not rain.

river rising on arrival, further upstream on the arrow must have been rain overnight. not to be put off gave it a few hours , sadly only connecting with the resident trout. a few of which were around the 18 inch mark . the grayling on this day were not having it . i now know a good height for trotting the arrow and the gauge really does need to be a fair bit lower than today.

River still up after recent downpours and fast flowing. Nice stretch of water will definitely try again.

No catch because no fishing was possible. The river level was at the top of the gauge so I turned tail and went home.

Only caught 1 small perch. The water was a little shallow and we didn't see much activity. We were trotting maggots.
Gaining access to the water was hampered in the northerly direction by live electrical fencing which made getting to the river difficult. It was better in the southerly direction and there were less brambles and other vegetation blocking access to the river from the bank.

An enjoyable day's fishing on this beautiful beat, in bright sunshine. Bites few and far between but two grayling caught on trotted maggot, one 13oz / 12", one c8ozs. My companion persevered with the top weirpool all session but had only one trout of c6ozs to show for his efforts.
