The river up and rising slightly after a frosty, clear night and the sun coming out during the day made for tricky conditions. We worked hard moving between swims and managed a lovely 8lb 6oz Barbel and three Chub. Quite the wildlife day also with peregrines hunting fast over the river and a very confident otter feeding in our swim.

Another lovley day on this wonderful river, levels were up the top croy was submerged, water had a bit of colour & was pushing through, we stayed mainly in the bottom field dropping baits in the deeper slower water all fish came to pellets fished on feeder tactics, nice & warm in the sun apart from the monsoon at lunchtime, stayed until dusk for the last fish which came around all too early

Arrived at the river with it having risen 0.7m overnight so that dictated it would be a day for big feeders. In the morning the fishing was hard as I tried most swims along the length of the beat with little to show. However, as the water started to drop early afternoon the fish came on the feed and several nice chub and 3 barbel were taken before curfew. Biggest barbel nearly 9lb and biggest chub a good 4lber.

Another cracking day on this beat which is kept relatively wild which is in keeping with its location. There are swims but they are not manicured or roped and you need to be fairly agile and mobile to get the best out of the stretch, not to mention the walk out at the end of the day up a very steep path which will get your blood pumping and your lungs tested. Travel light and don't plan too many (if any) trips back to the car unless you are very fit (or want to be).

Anticipation was running high after a cracking breakfast to mop up the previous nights Local ale. Warm weather and an overnight shower meant the river was running a little coloured. A slow morning on the lower swims was made bearable by some hard won far bank Chub whilst my angling partner continued to disgrace himself with some barely legal fry that hooked themselves on some maggots he smuggled past me. Having caught little I introduced him to the banker of a swim, off the Croy at the far end and he chanced upon a trio of well proportioned Barbel, having the absolute cheek to land one knocking on double figures. This was the last straw so I took residence at last light and battled a magnificient Chub to the net where upon it was devoured by the resident Pike. Looking forward to returning, hoping for better company next time.

Although good conditions, water height and colour decent, weather dry and a little overcast, bites were hard to come by. We only had 1 fat eel from the croy at the top of the beat on ledgered meat and a chub in the slow section at the bottom of the beat on pellet with swimfeeder. The croy, with faster water is a good walk up if you’re carrying gear, beware. Looks a great spot for float fishing but alas we were only equipped for ledgering tactics. Some work is needed to open up a few more swims in the faster water section. Saw kingfishers and a large fresh salmon leap upstream of the croy next to opposite bank a few times. A few respectful canoes came past.
