River rose over 11 feet overnight and was the colour of a Costa Coffee latte.
3 barbel to 2 rods on pellet feeder. Only 3 fishable pegs due to height of river backing up Carey Brook and a dyke at the bottom end of the fishery making a large part of the beat inaccessible. Couldn't be helped, nature's intervention.
As ever, lovely surroundings, far better than work!

A really lovely stretch of water but, as seem to be the case this year, another day requiring hard work to catch some fish. We moved all day to try and find the fish and were rewarded with a barbel each and a chub. The guys on the opposite bank (sitting it out) didn't apparently catch at all so glad that we kept moving.

Met with very helpful and knowledgeable guide Adam Fisher and spent first two hours walking the beat with him pointing out likely swims. Very heavy rain made for unpleasant fishing conditions and prevented access to certain swims which would have proved too risky.
Took one nice chub before realising I had an active wasp's nest very close to my head and made a swift retreat as a result. Rest of day spent searching other swims including bridge swim where rigs lost in snaggy conditions. Encroaching cattle made for uncomfortable fishing after that bringing an end to an enjoyable but frustrating day - but for the wasps, that swim had great potential!

Fishing quite hard although plenty of colour in the water, river still a bit low. Only one proper bite all day a Chub of 4.5lbs taken on luncheon meat ledgering. This time last year 13 Barbel! But a lovely stretch to fish nice and quiet. Stayed at the Inn on the Wye near Kerne Bridge which is a good base for fishing.

A bright and warm October day, water coloured, not much flow past the bridge, it was a long walk from the parking place up to the Islands so best to travel light (the last time I used the upper parking on the old railway track it was very overgrown and brambles were scratching my car). The flow picked up a fair pace by the Islands and I had a smallish Barbel with my first cast on pellets, nothing after that. Moved back down past the bridge and had a good size Barbel about midday. Lost another which shredded my 25lb braid hook link on an obstruction.

We tried the lower section in the morning though it was difficult to find but no luck. We then moved to the upper section and fished at the top end for just three barbel which had clearly been caught before.

Very difficult day compared to other trips - river on a slight rise, lots of weed coming down, which increased throughout day. 9 barbel and 4 chub, all from one spot and all before 10:00 hrs. Fished pellet feeder with varied size and hook baits. Ignored bridge area and fished off the back of a shallow run where a pool formed. Nice day in beautiful scenery.

Another very difficult day, absolutely nothing, no bites just weed sweeping down the river.
