8 Barbel and half-dozen chub fishing lower and upper sections, starting at 4pm, so short session then. Bright warm showery conditions with till 4 foot on. A favourite peaceful beat nonetheless; in one view in front of me I had a Heron's nest with two Herons busy, a Buzzard feeding it's youngster in the line of trees with what looked like a rabbit, and a Perigrine at 30 feet up, up and down the far bank as well as overhead in full view, feeding on flying insects for all afternoon. Then a shooter in the field behind me into dusk, with a couple shots belting into the river. Good job I was downmazing day all round the bank. Amazing afternoon all-round.

Correction to the hawk quartering the opposite bank on Weds 20th June; not a Peregrine catching insects, a Hobby. So, so wrong then...

A dozen barbel and 1 chub between the two of us, best barbel : 8lb. Sunny all day but despite the falling river (though still coloured), no fish from mid morning till late afternoon.

Another really nice day how lucky can I be with the weather. River a bit low and clear like yesterday but the barbel still had a right munch. Fished a few swims towards the top of beat and after a bit of a late start managed 14 barbel to about 8lb and one chub about 4.5lb all in great nick. Again used the same pellet hemp combo. Once again a stunning stretch of river. I can't thank WUF enough for the two days fishing I've just had, what a way to end the season - roll on june.

We arrived for our two day trip to fish the Wye at Lower Ballingham. We found the river to be slightly coloured but not far of its normal height. After walking the venue we decided to fish either side of the bridge pool. I fished the lower pool while Phil my fishing pal fished the upper pool. I had a small slack which I decided to float fish, I started to catch small dace but eventually the minnows got the better of my maggots so went onto the lead.
The river was much stronger than the rivers we normally fish so were using 3 and 4 ounce weights to hold the bottom. I managed to catch one chub on pellet around the three pound mark while Phil didn't get a single bite.
By midday we decided to try the lower end of the venue. Again targeting the barbel we tried pellets and meat and late afternoon Phil hooked into a barbel which weighed in at 7lbs.
The venue was superb a wonderful location to spend a days fishing and although we didn't get amongst the fish we look forward to trying again very soon.

A lovely bright day after a cold start - but the fish weren't very cooperative (or more likely we were incompetent): 9 barbel and 3 chub between us. The highlight of my day was first ever close encounter with a Wye otter!

Only managed 3 barbel the best going 6lb and 1 good chub all taken on pellet. Hard frost first thing, maybe that put them down a little. Nice to have the whole river to myself. Perfect day for the middle of October.
