Caught several chub and 2 smallish barbel. Tried maggots but after I had introduced some pellets they were only interested in them. Unfortunately I only had a few pellets! A nice short length of the Wye with a few decent looking pegs.

Weather bright, light wind, water low and clear, temp 12 deg. Approx 30 chub caught between 1.5lb and 4lb, some on the float some on the lead. Maggot was top bait.

Very wet start and difficult conditions but within the first hour three smashing chub up to 4lb were landed. Nothing after, but well worth the effort especially as it was my sons first chub ever and he got two! Definitely a venue to go back to.

River started to fall overnight but temperatures fell very low. This first cold snap of autumn will probably put the barbel off. Yes and so it proved to be, good job the odd chub were not put off. I took 2 fish on roving tactics, both about 4lb while my brother in law took a fish right at the death of 5lb - all taken on meat.

First time on this part of the Wye. Beautiful weather, river looked good but not much action during the day. Caught one barbel about 8lb on luncheon meat, second rod didn't have any bites. Moved ourselves upstream to fish the second half of the day where I managed a chub 2.5lb on pellet, again no other bites but an enjoyable day anyway, will return again later.

Got there 11am river clear but pushing through hard, r/h bank looked featureless, opted for swims on l/h bank. Trying to find a piece of water not affected with floating weed being pushed down, left us with only 2 options...the first and last swims on the beat. As NP had the most luggage I got the farthest swim, fast water with a small area of slack. Chose to ball in 6 balls of heavy fish meal ground bait at head of swim, laced with 3mm, 11mm pellet and hemp. Fished meat on one rod and hair rigged pellet on the other, alternating to see which the fish favoured...meat won hands down 12 chub from 2 lbs to 4 1/2...later 2 barbel 7 and 10lbs both ripping 25m of 15 lbs braid off the reel. Lost 6 fish (think 2 were barbel) on sharp snag and weed 1/3 way across river. NP had one bite in 7hrs in first swim - lost very good barbel, constant weed made his fishing very difficult on the day. Can't help wondering where fish will hold up when winter levels and coloured water are there?

Our first trip to the Wye resulted in several good-sized chub in the 2-5lb bracket. No barbel unfortunately, but we'll be back.

6 mint condition chub to 4lb 4oz and 3 barbel to 7lb 3oz in the same superb condition, noticed how quickly the barbel revived in the net before release, wonder if this is due to high oxygen levels of the water, brilliant day on this wonderful river again, had the stretch to myself, thanks WUF, keep up the good work.

I only fished the morning and even then I had a break to join the other half for breakfast. Started at the top end of left bank but no bites, moved down to lower end and had a barbel of 6ish first cast. Returned after breakfast and had 3 chub in quick succession, all quiet then until I was thinking of leaving, then had one more barbel a little smaller than the first. A lovely short stretch for the time I had available, all fish caught on pellet.
Thanks again WUF!

Early afternoon to evening session, fished left bank which is having a lot of work on it opening up more swims. Caught 5 Chub to 4lb 8ozs and a barbel of about the same weight. All on pellets.
