3 x Brown Trout largest 12oz, Tough conditions, very bright, very low water.

Had a lovely days fishing on the Lugg. River clear, hatches of olives during the day. Caught 4 brown trout to 10 inches all returned.

Very blustery day, wind and rain kept the fly life firmly sub surface. This is a very interesting beat the parts that are not impounded by the weirs are classic Lugg and some of the most picturesque water you will find any where in the catchment. Although the day was slightly marred by the constant attention of the cows who always seemed to want to wade in the pool I was about to fish next. Still I managed 5 BT up to about 12 inches and 6 out of season grayling the best of which was real conker measuring in at somewhere around 50cm. Why is it that grayling get so ugly when they reach these sort of sizes?

A very hard day was had, I caught a trout in 1st half hour and my friend had 2 grayling. This was a very hard beat but weather was lovely so it wasnt all bad. Seen about three or four small fish top all day and 2 mink in the bottom wier! On the whole a nice beat but only really found half dozen decent swims in the conditions. Think will venture back to the Usk next time. Paul

Cracking Day weather wise but fishing difficult, hooked 2 fish on tungsten grhe in open water in first 6 casts & saw nothing for rest of day. Appeared to be decent hatch but saw only 5 rises all day. Easy fishing looked great. "must practise more". Surprised to see cattle standing in river no fencing.

Cold start to season with bitter wind, cloudy with weak sun showing for short periods only. Fished mainly nymphs with no success but as a novice in river fishing and new to the water, look forward to returning in more favourable conditions!

Hard days fishing, quite chilly though the sun broke out in the afternoon and there was a trickle of large dark olives, but nothing moving for them. River still carrying a tad of colour. Just 3 fish between us, one very small 15cm whilst the other two were 47cm fish.

A dour sort of day, with the sun failing to make an appearance and the air tempertature around 5-6 degrees. The river was dropping after last week's rain, although was still a bit too coloured for fly fishing. I spent most of the day fishing with Czech nymphs, although a sparse Large Dark Olive hatch after lunch brought a few fish up to the surface so I had a somewhat hopeful half-hour on klinkhamers and paraduns. Fish? None, but thankfully I didn't have any canoeists or cormorants to contend with.
I last fished this beat in October and found a large grayling shoal in the riffles immediately below the access point. I didn't find any fish there today, and fished from the top weir all the way down to the lower limit. If anybody knows where the grayling are currently shoaled up feel free to let us know!

Very dull and windy with persistent rain. Fished from 9am to 4pm had the one Grayling 15" safely returned at around 2pm on an olive czech nymph and that was it. Only fished the beat from the top weir down, too many snags and obstructions in the top half through the wood, may be fishable if some of the debris was removed. Also had the pleasure of two sets of canoesist pass through (one party several strong).

Nice day out on this beat. Air temp 8 degrees water temp 7 degrees, water quite clear and low for winter. Managed to wade in most places where it was required to try and get best out of fishing. Struggled to find grayling with only a couple of pulls early on in the day. Only one female grayling to TH of about 1/2 lb late in the day to save us from a blank.
