First time on the Wye. A literal baptism. High water and lots of rain for most of the day. Caught one chub to save the day. Looking forward to another day when or if we get proper summer.

Saw no fish, caught no fish, not even any bites, very strange day on the last day of the season.

First time on this stretch, thanks to Adam for his advice. Great stretch, water low and clear, fished feeder with hemp and maggot to catch 17 Chub to 4lb 13oz and a single 7LB 4OZ Barbel. Morning was difficult, all fish came in a 3 hour period from 3pm.

The last time that I fished this beat was June 16th 2011 when access to the river was somewhat limited, so it was nice to see all of the new pegs that have been cut, this contributed to a wonderful days fishing. Roving tactics with stick float, centre pin, castor, maggot & hemp seed resulted in catching many salmon parr, brown trout, grayling, several chub between 3 and 5lb and one barbel of around 6lb.

The weather was kind to us and the fish clearly appreciated this too as we had 13 barbel, 17 chub, 4 WBT & 2 grayling between the three rods. 12 of the barbel fell to one rod with the best going 8.05. All the fish were taken on maggot fished on a 3-4ft tail in conjunction with small maggot feeders. All the fish were taken at the lower end of the beat. We also had a slight incident concerning some youngsters who decided to start pitching rocks into our swims from the high bank opposite us. Fortunately it was short lived and soon stopped.
