WOW June 16 again and what an afternoons fishing. After a slow start [no indications for the first 45 mins] a change of tactics was needed. Swapping to a blockend feeder loaded with hemp and a small 6mm pellet on the hair had the desiered effect kickstarting an instant response. Chub after chub came to the net so a change back to pellet/groundbait feeder and I had a barbel first cast. To be honest I lost count of how many after 18 barbel they were even taking on the drop. Thank you to all at the Foundation and Don.

Had my first certain salmon sighting of the season this evening - unfortunately 1 minute before the only canoes of the evening passed right over it. I left it for a while and went over it with different flies, but it wasn't to be. A nice shad taken on a brief visit the previous evening. It has been an enjoyable spring getting to know some good fly water and I'm quite relaxed about not catching anything that I was going to have to put back anyway. A far cry from earlier years. Maybe one day the powers that be will again grant us the right to take at least one fish home. Then the adrenalin might start to flow again!

Went for the evening. Water has cleared and dropped. Another excellent fly hatch, including mayfly, kept the trout interested - why do I never take trout tackle? One possible salmon sighting - or was it a monster trout?

Fished late on, as I had made the trip, but the river was still quite thick although around 1' 6" so not massively high. Fantastic hatch of fly which eventually got the trout going.

River up a bit and again looking good, was expecting a little colour but that was good too. No salmon seen or touched though, even with a fish coming from Courtfield in the morning. Still a joy to fish the best bit of fly water I've found on the lower river. Many thanks again Don, will be back for another go soon.

I had two fresh fish this morning on fly Wyebank. Yellow flamethrower. perfect conditions, mild, water temp mid to high 50s, overcast, light westerly wind. est 12lb from lower crib and est 14lb from bottom pool. The water has held steady for 5 days now at 2" below summer level on the Lydbrook gauge and lots of it - a different place without weed backing it up and great to fish with fly.
