PS: I did hook "'something' from the top pool, freelining a cube of luncheon meat, which despite making early line on, turned and headed for Monmouth taking all 80 yards of line from my reel and leaving me with a rod and empty spool for contemplation! Ain't no stopping us now sprang to mind!
Don suggested that it may have been something with an 'adipose fin' shall we say, who am I to argue as I've never felt a pull like it!

My fishing partner JP has already submitted a comprehensive report on Saturdays visit to Wyebank. No barbel to report,1 chub late mid afternoon,my ony real bite of the day. Cold temps night before, bright day kept the barbel away. As ever Don helpfull & courteous, & Wye & Usk booking service as good as always. Hoping to return to Wyebank towards the end of October when river is a bit quieter.

8 barbel and 7 chub, overcast perfect conditions.

Not so much a slow start today as a nil start. River now quite low and clear couple with a cold NW wind. By lunchtime after trying several spots I had caught 1 chub. Don came down at 5pm and advised me to move again. Even then initially I had no success but as the sun set I ended the day with 4 barbel caught in half an hour. No big ones - but 3 were 7lbs. Without Don's advice I wouldn't have caught any!

First time that I have fished Wyebank ...what a stunning stretch of the Wye. Fishing with my god-daughter Gemma on her first barbel trip. Started fishing at 10.30am and she caught her first barbel at 10.32am....about 4lbs and was absolutely thrilled. We continued to catch spasmodically over the day, finishing with 6 barbel to 10lbs 7oz...with several lost and 8 chub to 4lbs 8oz. Successful method was feeder-fished pellets. Very many thanks to Don Macer-Wright for his generous help and information. Needless to say Gemma wants to know when are we going barbel-fishing again!!!

We had a great day on a very pretty stretch of the Wye. Our Guide Tim Lennon was excellenat and Don the owner was really helpful and a nice chap. One rod roved the river, and whilst it managed to hook a few from the top pool, sadly none were landed. I fished the bottom pool for 9 barbel to the 7lb mark and 2 chub. Being a Saturday the canoes were present in large numbers which I think must have slowed the fishing down somewhat. I will definitely be back to fish this stretch and Courtfield too. Thanks to Tim and Don for a really enjoyable day.

I had the first coloured fish of the year from Wyebank, about 12lb on an allys shrimp size 10 double at the bottom end of the Wyebank Run, adjacent to the willows on the far bank at 1915 hrs. Saw a couple of fish rise in the Willow Run on Courtfield but couldn't tempt them.

Had a great day on wyebank today, started at 10am fishing from the groin next to bottom pool and had 2 barbel around 6-7 lb between 11am and midday after a wasted 1st hour trying to fish the far bank tree line in an impossibly fast flow before I realised the barbel were only 1 3rd of the way out in the walking paced water towards the bottom pool to my left. Then had a 2 hour lunch break (my fault for taking the wife!!) before moving to the last swim on the bottom pool after a quick chat to Don the bailiff who put me on the fish straight away and caught 2 chub ,one of which was over 20 inches long and in winter could have easily gone 6-7 lb on my first two casts using luncheon meat. Then a swap to pellets on the hair saw me catch 3 barbel between 6 and 7.5lbs before a I got snapped on the rocks and whilst re-tackling up about 50 kids in 20 kayaks went noisily past and even stopped in my swim (bless them) but this clearly didn't disturb the fish as on my very next cast I had another barbel and then another to round the day off. Used groundbait feeder with hemp and pellets sandwiched in middle and a 3 foot hooklength. Cheers WUF for another fantastic day on the wye and I will definitely be back.

Very cold start followed by a very bright, sunny day, river running quite fast. Only two screaming takes but unfortunatly none landed. Dispite plenty of feeding via cage feeder fish did not seem to want to feed. Oh well, any day sat by the Wye is wonderfull.

Phew, R ended today with 30 barbel and some lovely chub to 4lbs 2oz from Wyebank. Prob well over 120lb of barbel. The largest was just over 7lbs. They don't half pull your string in the fast flowing water. Pellet and ground bait working well. Used plenty of the stuff and casting on a regular basis. R went home very happy and with an aching arm. He will be back next year this time with his budding young fisherman lad. Happy Days
