Fished late afternoon into evening. Lost decent barbel on final cast of the day. My first time on this beat so a learning curve but some classic barbel looking runs. It's a bit of a scramble along the bank to get down to the gravel areas if you are of slightly advancing years. Not sure how accessible this stretch would be when river levels are up.

Probably one of the most picturesque stretches in the river and in the past it’s given me some really decent size fish .
It can be at times hard going and is very snaggy , prepare to loose a few feeders but with the right approach and you put the work n the rewards can be awesome
Sadly no bars of gold on this occasion but a few chub did grace the net

The two barbel were 5lbs and just over 3lbs and caught in the upper pool on consecutive casts on rolling meat early in the morning. A 2lb chub also followed in quick succession before the sun came out and it got too bright. Moving down river to the next pool gave 2 more chub on meat. Then moved onto the lower pool where 1 more chub was caught. A good day overall but some big gaps between fish.

A hard day. Started well with 2 chub early on from the top pool to rolling meat. Then no bites for several hours. Too hot and bright. One further chub of 3 1/2 lbs at 2pm. All fish caught on meat. No bites on pellet. Canoeists were a problem with 3 canoes actually crashing into me even though I was only standing in 6 inches of water. One double canoe capsized directly in the swim. Hilarious! One family took my rod rests out and the rod and nearly myself went in the water. Many of them have no idea how to steer. I’m all for people enjoying the river but the lack of courtesy for other river users got rather tedious. Perhaps W&U foundation could have a word with the canoe companies.

Tried several parts of the Wyebank run but only got takes at the lower end. All but one fish came to rolled meat. Fairly easy wading to the edge of the deeper water and just a flick put the bait in the run on a lightly weighted line. The fish seemed to be holding at all depths. Almost every run through triggered interest.
Ironically, the best fish, a 5lb barbel came when I paused wading for lunch, parked myself in the chair and the rod in the rest after casting out a Haiths red pellet.

A first for me on the Wye…A Hiker in my swim…A young and probably fortunately tall lady scrambled down the bank close to where I was fishing and informed me she was on the wrong side of the bank for her “Hike”…She kindly informed me she was going to make the crossing because the next bridge was too far away…I explained it was deeper and faster than it looked but she was not bothered by this and set off wading with her phone placed inside the top of her rucksack…Halfway across it was not looking too good but she calmly took her rucksack off ..held it above her head and calmly navigated her way to the opposite bank…Very impressive!! The fishing was too and although the Barbel were between 2 to 4lb they were young strong healthy fish…

After struggling in the intense heat of the previous day the Wyebank shade was appreciated. An after lunch start was not ideal and the fishing was slow at first with a few missed bites and a chub and an eel but that all changed a few hours in when something more substantial bent the rod over. An arm aching 10 or so minutes later the barbel I made the trip over from Ireland for lay in the landing net. 9lb 4oz of majestic power, carefully weighed, photoed and recovered left one very happy angler.
So happy I won't go on about the "good access."
